Had to find a new dim sum place since the old standard just closed its doors. Caught off guard I used yelp and found another one. It's delish and they make everything fresh to order which I loved. Maybe if you get here early, they do the push carts with dim sum. The prices are typical which is reasonable. Nice atmosphere and cute place. Always great to find a new place!! And the staff was very nice and all smiles!

Such a bummer! I reviewed this place a year ago and gave it 5 stars. Has been my family's favorite! I went today and found the menu different; no more amazing lunch specials, nor the same quality of food. I spoke with the manager and she explained they had changed ownership. I had noticed the last couple months hadn't been up to quite the same standards but wrote it off as a bad day. They finally just changed the menu (they kept the old one for a while). Too bad! Time to find a new place :(.

I just discovered this new restaurant opened only for about one month. They have the best dim sum in this area. (Yes, better than Koi Palace for 1/2 the price). This place is super clean and nice. I will not go anywhere from now on. Their steamed shrimp dumpling and shrimp rice noodle are especially superb. We have a large group of picky eaters today and everyone raves about this place. Owner Anna is very nice and she will take good care of you. Please give this a try, you will love it. My 5 stars are for food quality, super clean and comfortable place, easy parking and reasonable prices.

They need to hire waiters and waitress with English proficiency. Even pointed to order on the menu and still get it wrong Boil fish is good but mistakes on order a waste of time!

This restaurant seems to have changed ownership: new menu, new staff, new dishware, higher prices. Only the name is the same. We ordered two lunch specials: seafood hot pot ($11.99) and szechuan pepper dried beef ($9.99). Not only was the hot pot tasteless, but it lacked broth and the fish was a frozen fruit de mer blend. The szechuan pepper dried beef was similarly boring, with overdone veggies. Either dish could have come from Panda Express. The sweet & sour soup was probably from pre-prepared frozen; the eggrolls were definitely Costco. Service was erratic, with entrees served well before rice. Oh, and the "ice water" was hot. Skip it. And one more thing, the website still has the old menu, so don't be fooled -- you cannot order any of those dishes. This place is terrible now!

I came in for lunch a few weeks ago and I'm wondering why it took me so damn long to come in and try this place. The lunch specials are spectacular and it was incredibly delicious. I had the Mongolian Beef and requested that it be made spicy - which she happily did and it was great. Seemed slightly understaffed that day, but service wasn't anything to complain about. Excited to come back here sometime soon!

Authentic Chinese food! Sichuan Cod anyone? It was like a carnival explosion on my pallet. Talk about flavor! We visit this spot every-time we are in the San Ramon area. Yum!

My co-worker and I went here for lunch and ordered today and it was just so-so. 1. Orange Chicken - not enough chicken, more bread and not thoroughly made 2. Clay Pot Chicken - delicious, a def. must try! 3. Port Pot Stickers - very oily and they were really thick. They are more the size of an entrée coming with 6 large pieces than an appetizer. 4. The coke was flat and when I told the waitress, twice, she said I probably had too much ice in it. At the end, she did take it off the bill but the comment wasn't needed. I know what good coke/pepsi tastes like. I have been here 3-4 times and the experience has always been alright. Something may have been off today.

YiPing is an awesome restaurant to eat at. I have had several menu items and all of them have been very good. The food is pretty much all organic, which is odd for a Chinese joint. I will have to say that the claypot is fantastic, very flavorful and the chicken is cooked darn near to perfection. One knock that I have for this place is that sometimes the dishes can be VERY spicy and extremely oily. Often that discourages me from ordering certain soups or stir fry options. That being said, you can always tell them to turn down the heat and they'll do it for you lol. The service is always good and quite prompt. Negative 1 star for too much spice and no plum wine... :-(

I go through chinese restaurants faster than a set of tires. YiPing has been at the top of my list in San Ramon for a while now. They can also make dishes gluten free

Pretty decent Chinese food, if not a little oily. San Ramon seems to have an abundance of these nice looking, but greasy Chinese foods spots for lunch (Imperial Palace, Pearl, King Palace, etc). Can't say YiPing one really stands above the rest, but they have a decent lunch menu. Just get ready to feel heavy afterwards. Our group split the mushroom tofu, clay pot chicken, and beef brocoli. Beef brocolli was probably my favorite, but it's also pretty standard.

Excellent dim sum !! Comparable to Koi Palace or better !! Their Mongolian beef , hot and sour soup, and beef noodles are very good as well. Service needs a little bit of improvement - faster, that's all!

Food was pretty decent, service was prompt, and place is clean. It is spicy when they say spicy. Weird thing was the background music was American country music in a Chinese restaurant?

This place has great review on Yelp and it is fairly close to my office. I checked the pictures and since I like spicy food, I was very excited to give it a try. I checked the lunch menu and called to get Cumin Lamb and a pork wonton starter to go. The lunch menu on the website says that lunch is $9, starters are $2, and lunch comes with a soup. When I opened the to go bag, I only saw the starter and the l lunch box. Disappointed that I don't have my fav hot and sour soup, I tell myself it is ok since the lunch box looks huge. I started with the pork wonton. The sauce was really sweet and the wonton skin is really thick, which I would call it a dumpling not a wonton. Feeling disappointed again, I decided to try the cumin lamb instead. I am always a fan of cumin lamb. It is supposed to be marinated thoroughly and deep fried for few seconds to have the crisp texture. Mine was not like that. It was very very oily with soggy powders on it. When I bite into the meat, all I tasted was the overpowering powder. The meat was with lots of fatty parts and were in huge pieces that I couldn't chew it properly and was hard to tear each piece apart. Couldn't stand it, so I decided to throw all of them away while I was really hungry. I think I am not too picky when I am hungry, but it was really bad! When I was throwing away the food, I saw the receipt on the bag says that the lunch is $9.50, and starter is $2.50, which is $50 cents more each than the website. Usually I wouldn't care, but after spending $13.20 on a VERY BAD lunch, I was angry that the price on the website is different from reality and I was not given a soup...... I want to share with everyone so no one would have similar horrible experience as mine!

Dingy - and not all that organic, at least not that I could tell. Have you looked at the website? A website should reflect the product, in my view. ( yipingrestaurant.com ), but the restaurant is not bright, green and wholesome. Instead, the lighting is dim, the tables are made out of some material that makes them perpetually sticky (not pleasant) and our paper menus were stained by oil or grease (also not pleasant). Plus, the two main dinner menus (there's a separate one for Sichuan dinners) we received were different, although the waiter cleared that up for us by stating "That shouldn't be there, it's old." But it was. The boasting about organic ingredients would be fine if the taste of the food reflected freshness. It didn't. My chicken clay pot meal was heavy with oil and the chicken and limited vegetables did not reflect "organic" or even really fresh. My clay pot was pretty similar to other Sichuan restaurants. The same could be said for the seafood clay pot my wife had. Our waiter also struggled because he had to serve a party of 12, plus his other tables. In most other restaurants, when someone has a large group the rest of the staff - the manager or the owner - pitches in to ensure timely service to other guests. That didn't happen. The waiter knew the menu, was professional, but also was running out of steam by the time we left. Why 3 stars? The food was decent and a good value. The owner heavily promotes the place with coupons and direct email bargains. Right now there's a special for any 2 entrees and 2 glasses of any wine for $35. Add 2 cups of brown rice for $4 and it's a fine bargain, especially since we will get 2 meals from it. But, frankly, as we drove home and talked about our second dining experience there we pretty much decided we wouldn't return unless we heard there was more attention to the ambiance and freshness.

Reasonably priced for a nice dinner out when compared with Uncle Yu's or any of the other nearby restaurants. Schezuan style chinese food (not your Panda Express version of fried rice or orange chicken here.) We went here with a party of 8 for Saturday night, no RSVP and we were seated right away. We ordered shrimp fried rice, honey walnut prawn, spicy beef stirfry, crispy chow mein (vegetable, seafood), beef chow fun, braised eggplant, pot stickers, and sesame pancackes. The honey walnut prawn serving was enough to feed only one and half adults in my opinion - but the rest of the food was outstanding. The food was great and the restaurant is clean and spacious. It's the old space for where Esin was before it moved up out to Danville.

We ate take out from here on 1.30.15. IN MY OPINION... we thought the food was bland, some flavors did not go well with each other, the chicken was mushy, the fried eggplant was oily, the dumplings were too doughy and the dumpling sauce wasn't what you normally get when you order dumplings at a Chinese restaurant. If you're expecting Chinese food, you're not going to get what you expected. I don't know why anyone would rave about this place. We were both disappointed and wouldn't eat here again.

I had a great experience at YiPing Restaurant. I am not always a fan of Chinese cuisine but love that YiPing supports local organic and sustainable businesses. You could tell they take great pride in going out of their way to please each guest. Wesley was in charge that night, and he could be seen personally greeting each table that came into the restaurant. He spoke to us making sure we were satisfied with the food and that the spice level was just right for us on our lotus root dish. Loved it! My friend Dave and I enjoyed everything about this place. Green beans are to die for! At YiPing you can lose yourself in good food and good conversation around the table celebrating life!

Nice local place for fresh Chinese food. Have tried a few dishes which were all good, but I'm stuck on the seafood clay pot which is very tasty. Great place for weekday lunches, as service is quick.

Tried it on a whim due to a local deals program, was pleasantly surprised on how good the meal was...asked for extra spice for my clay pot and it was a good solid overall meal. Very tempted to see how the dinner menu is, so if in the neighborhood I think I might have found a place to go to in San Ramon!!

For me, THE BEST Chinese food you can get in San Ramon. I especially love their deep fried cod and mongolian beef. Great lunch deal.

Having grown up in China and having super picky parents where Chinese food is concerned, we don't frequent a lot of Chinese restaurants, but YiPing is definitely one of our favorites. The decor itself is not what you'd expect of a typical Chinese restaurant, and a lot of thought seems to have been put into the placement of wall decor and lighting, which I can appreciate. The lighting in here is dim, there are plush and chair seats, and there is a full bar (I believe?) to the right when you first walk in. There are also separate menus for drinks, usual fare, and Sichuan cuisine. My family and I usually order off the last one, and there are quite a few dishes that we're partial to. And just as a sidenote, but the tea here isn't complimentary like at most other Chinese restaurants. Beef brisket and tofu braised in clay pot: ( yelp.com/biz_photos/yipi… ) I honestly can't count the number of times we've ordered this particular dish, and there have only been maybe once or twice where the quality was off-mark. The large pieces of beef brisket are super tender and flavorful, and the tofu offers a nice contrast to the to the other ingredients. It's mildly spicy, but I believe that can be adjusted depending on preference. The broth at the bottom is delicious drizzled over rice, so definitely get this dish with a bowl of white rice. Hunan-style spicy pork belly stir-fried with peppers: ( yelp.com/biz_photos/yipi… ) This dish is some hardcore, authentic, super-spicy fare, and I definitely don't say that lightly. Both my parents love this dish, and you can definitely taste that wok-fire stir-fried smokiness in it. The cook on the vegetables is crispy bordering on raw, but it offers a great contrast to the soft pork belly and adds a dimension of texture while chewing. It's pretty spicy though, so if you're not used to the Chinese kind of spicy, I'd recommend getting an extra bowl of rice with this (or an extra cup of ice water). Fire-charred pork kidney stirfried with peppers, mushrooms, and black woodear fungus: ( yelp.com/biz_photos/yipi… ) My favorite! Not for the faint of heart if you've never had pork kidney because it definitely has a taste that takes getting used to, but this dish is made fantastically here. The cut on the kidney is authentic and lovely, the ingredients paired with it are of great texture, and the overall flavor is just one of the best I've ever had. The one tiny gripe I have with this dish is that sometimes it can be overly salty, but more often than not, it's just right. You can also get this dish any level of spiciness, but I tend to go not spicy at all because the combination of all the flavors is good enough without the spiciness. Stir-fried pea sprouts with garlic: ( yelp.com/biz_photos/yipi… ) I've gotten this dish some hundred times, and it's a pretty good, standard vegetable dish. There have been a couple times where the pea sprouts have been a little older and chewier than I would optimally like, but it's not a big deal. Overall, this is probably my favorite Chinese restaurant in the San Ramon area, and I definitely recommend it. Plus, one of the waitresses, Christine (Kristine?) is super sweet. She's always really friendly and efficient, and I adore her!

OMG, love this place. The food is absolutely AMAZE-BALLS! It's tucked away in a plaza so it's hard to see from the street. Glad my roommate showed me where it's at because the food is sooooo yummers! The atmosphere is very welcoming & the staff is super friendly! What we orderd: Crispy Scallion Pancake with House Dipping Sauce: YUMMERS! The sauce makes it! Wok Dry Fried Green Beans with Sichuan Spicy Sauce: AMAZE-BALLS! Chicken with Crispy Orange Zest Sauce: The chicken was so well-cooked, not dry & the chicken was the best kind of crispy there can be. RECOMMEND! Chicken Fried Rice: Can't really go wrong with chicken fried rice. The serving sizes are pretty big, we're both small petite girls & we had a lot to take home. They support local Organiz and sustainable businesses by shopping at local farms and markets. OVERALL, I will be back! :D

Pleasant surprise!!! Spicy really isn't my thing but that's what you get for going to a Szechuan restaurant! I enjoyed every dish and every minute. You can adjust spiciness to you level if you really can't handle it but still expect a bite. The waitress was awesome and kind enough to explain the menu. Def coming back!!

Pretty good Chinese for for being in San Ramon. So far, this is the best one we have had out this way. Would not recommend the dim sum/appetizers (potstickers, chili oil wontons) as those were "just ok", but their main entrees are really good! We had the brisket soup noodles (very good), the green beans (excellent), beef chow fun (very good), fried chicken (very very good), Bok chit with ground pork (very very good), and the salt pepper calamari (good- would have been excellent if it was crunchy). The vegetable pairing with the calamari was really good. I don't normally like celery but I loved it with this dish.

I love this place and I would call myself somewhat of a regular. That being said, YiPing's overall is either great, or not so great... I've had many mixed experiences here. I've had great, fast service, and slow, sub-par service. I've had excellent food, and I've been confused and disappointed by what's being served to me. Not exactly sure why, there is so much inconsistency there, but for how good it is when it's good, I'll keep going back!

Organic and healthy Chinese food? Seemed like an oxymoron until you've tried YiPing Restaurant. The Deep Fried Beef with Spicy Sichuan Sauce was quite remarkable! It was sautéed in celery, chili, bell peppers, and jalapeños but was still crispy when served. The waitress said that although it's not on the menu, the chicken version is also available. Definitely something to check out next time. The Stir Fried Seafood in Sizzling Clay Pot was also a hit while the Beef with Crispy Orange Sauce was just OK. I thought the Hot and Sour Soup was rather weak in flavor. It's pricier than the average Chinese restaurant but if you want a change-of-pace on your Chinese food, then give YiPing a try.

It's really hard for me to believe this place has 4 stars. We got there at 6 on Sunday. Started out with a laundry list of items they didn't have: pea shoots, egg plant, spinach, and more I can't remember. There were 3-4 dishes we tried to order but couldn't because they didn't have it. I can understand 1 or 2 items but this was ridiculous. I cracked a joke about them not having any food in the restaurant and asked if the manager was there. Our server apologized and said she had no control over the kitchen inventory and was very polite. If I were the owner of the restaurant I'd fire whoever is in charge of kitchen management and food supply. Now the food. We ordered jia jiang mien, dan dan mien, seafood clay pot, some stir fry dish, and appetizer. The jia jiang mien didn't have cucumbers and when we asked about it apparently they were out of that too. Everything was overly salty. The dan fan mien had no balance at all and tasted disgusting and sour. Save your money and don't eat here. They probably don't have it anyway.

I have eaten Chinese all over the Bay Area, and this is one of the best ones. It's not "tourist-ized" cuisine and if you like spicy Sichuan, it's one of the BEST. Ingredients tasted fresh. Hot and sour soup was thick - and hot. The braised codfish fillet dish was spicy (as warned, but delicious) and contained an ample amount of fish, along with vegetables. Stir-fried chicken in the clay pot was excellent - not too spicy and the chicken tasted good. Service was friendly and efficient.

Coming in was interesting right off the bat. The place was completely empty, but whatever. It's Sunday at 6pm in San Ramon. I don't expect anything to be very active. So we sit down, and admittedly take our time ordering... Only to find out that the kitchen is out of stock on half the menu. Like, seriously. We had to change half of what we wanted in order to get stuff they actually had.our server was super cool and comped one of the dishes, but seriously... When we finally got our food it was not good. I wont pretend to know a lot about Chinese food at all, but I do eat it regularly with my Chinese girlfriend and her family, and even they were not happy. I can't believe this place is in business or continues to remain in business. The food quality was poor, nearly a quarter of their menu or more was out of stock, and their only saving grace was a server that seemed just as annoyed as we were.

I'm a big fan of Yiping compared to some of the other Chinese food choices in San Ramon. I love spicy food and always tell them to bring the heat. My favorite dish is hands down the braised cod with Sichuan spicy sauce and chili oil. It has a lot of aromatic flavor for how fiery it is. I'm also a big fan of the ma po tofu here and the sliced lotus root. The noodle dishes are just ok-nothing memorable. I haven't been here for lunch yet but they have a great special that includes soup, an entree, and rice all for under $10.

I worked in San Ramon for several years and never noticed YiPing when I dined at their next door neighbor, Miraku. A former co-worker/friend suggested YiPing for our next lunch date and she mentioned that it's organic & healthy Chinese food. At first I was skeptical because I happen to love the traditional and maybe not-so-healthy fare. As any true Yelper, I browsed their menu and reviews. I agreed to go to YiPing and I'm glad that I did. Lunch Special = $9 Includes a cup of hot & sour soup, Jasmine or brown rice, and an entree. You can also add an extra starter for $2 and/or an extra vegetable entree for $4. We both opted for the $9 special with brown rice. My friend recommended their clay pot entrees and they offer a seafood and chicken version. I went with the seafood and she had the chicken. Our waitress asked if we had any allergies to shrimp or mushrooms as it's added to their hot & sour soup. I thought it was nice that she asked because many places usually just serve it as is. The soup tasted delicious and the shrimp was a nice touch. Our entrees arrived in a timely manner and I was really pleased with the seafood clay pot dish. There were ample amounts of fish, prawns, & calamari but only 1 piece of scallop. Regardless, the seafood clay pot was a tasty dish and I couldn't finish it so I packed the rest to-go along with the brown rice. I typically enjoy fried rice with Chinese food so this was a different but delightful twist. I am curious if you can get fried rice with the lunch special because the menu simply noted Jasmine (white) or brown rice as options. Nice lunch experience but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, unless of course I'm meeting someone again.

The location might be hard to find, but just find parking near Crown Billiards. This place is next to Miraku. This is a great place for Sichuan style cuisine! The place in general appeared clean a pleasant. A good second date type of place. We were greeted at the door and immediately seated. We started with the: Crispy Sesame Pancake, Filled with Tender Cuts of Five Spices Beef, Scallion and Plum Sauce ($5). Not really my cup of tea, but the gf digged it. It was okay, nothing spectacular. I loved the Ground Pork & Bok Choy, with Spicy Sesame Sauce, Served over Soft Noodles ($8.50). Good stuff, flavorful pork with a little kick, but not over-powering. The noodles were delish too! Not a good as QQ Noodles in Fremont, but decent. I'd order this again next time. And the Beef Brisket Slowly Spiced Overnight, with Soft Fried Tofu, Served in Hot Clay Pot ($12). Man, this was a little fatty, but excellent! The beef was really tender and savory! If I wasn't watching my weight, I'd order this one again as well. Luckily, there's plenty of other items on the menu I'd love to try. The Rose Tea (Imported from China) was also fragrant and good. I forgot our server's name, but she was helpful and attentive. Even the other waitress gave us a water refill without even asking. Perfect! I'll be back.

Wow...this place had really good food. Mostly organic food also, so that's a bonus. Service was average. We ordered the hot and sour soup, mongolian beef, fried rice with chicken, and teriyaki chicken. Soup was eh. Mongolian beef was the best. Fried rice with chicken was also really good. Teriyaki chicken was ok, but the asparagus is really good with it. Will definitely be back!

The food was good but the atmosphere and service was seriously lacking! We were offered the "romantic" table by the host who pointed to the burned out light bulb above the table. (Really?). We opted for another spot. The paint on the walls had been really scraped and dinged up by the chairs. Unsightly and obvious. No placemats on the tables (not even paper placemats). We were given salad size plates instead of dinner size plates. When you go to a Chinese place, you expect to order a few dishes and load up your plate, no? Not possible here! The worst part was having to wave off the flies that were hovering around and landing on our food. :( I'm not normally super anal or picky, but, you can be sure I won't be returning to this place.

This place is located in the Crow Canyon shopping plaza, across the street from Diablo plaza. The interior is beautifully decorated with hardwood tables, Chinese artifacts (giant bamboo steamers, a nice tea set), and a nice dark lighting. They play American music in the background so I had some skepticism at first on the "authenticity" factor. After all, not many Chinese restaurants have a wine menu! Menu selections have many classical Sichuan dishes, including some with Chinese characters, which my wife liked. They also flag which dishes are likely to be spicy. For dinner, we ordered the spicy seafood claypot, braised tofu/black mushrooms/bok choy, and two bowls of rice. I wanted to try their spicy pork wonton appetizers but my wife warned me we wouldn't finish - she was right since the entrée portions were very generous. Tastewise, the food is probably our favorite so far out of three Chinese restaurants in the Danville/San Ramon area. They use enough spice and go easy on the sauce so it doesn't overwhelm everything. Seafood claypot had generous portions of scallops, fish, and squid. Presentation was also nice and service was excellent. Best of all, prices were extremely reasonable - I can see this place as a good lunch place as well. Will definitely come back! The food quality here rivals that of Sichuan Fortune House in Pleasant Hill, CA - although the parking, decorations, and ambiance are better at YiPing I think.

Two stars for the look and variety, none for the flavor. I felt like I was eating rubber. Tried the orange chicken, noodles, rice, mixed vegetables, eggplant fritters, spring roll, lotus root for Chinese New Year. It made me thank my stars for not having to eat here often.

The best Mongolian beef i have EVER had. I am not Chinese. I will not be ordering kidney in a clay pot. i go for dumplings, orange chicken, scallion pancake, won tons, soup and veggies. HUGE portions, reasonably priced. It is ORGANIC!!!! WHAT????????? The service is very friendly, and attentive. The dumplings were huge and amazing. orange chicken 50 times better than panda express and ORGANIC. Everything was really really good. This place is my fantasy.

Thanksgiving Eve Feast / Office party today! Peeps in my office always choose the best places so I had my fork at the ready position. Organic dish after organic dish came out and I have ranked them on a scale of "rock paper scissors for the last bite" to "pretty good but will encourage someone to have the last portion". 1) Braised Cod Fillets in Sichuan Spicy Sauce and Chili Oil was the best! It was on the verge of too spicy for me but nothing a gallon of water can't handle. It comes exactly as it sounds so no surprises. I used the sauce/oil for my rice and as a dip for the rest of the dishes because it was so good. 2) Cod Fillets Marinated with Spicy Sweet Ginger Sauce, Deep Fried, then Stir Fried with Dried Red Chili Pepper. That sounds like a lot of work for the chef. It is salty (in a good way), subtlety sweet, semi-spicy, with the perfect crunch. An almost too close 2nd to the Braised Cod. 3) Stir Fried Cumin Lamb, Red Bell Peppers and Jalapeño Peppers. Cumin is right! It might have been spicy but I couldn't quite tell because of the cumin. It is the dominating taste so if you don't like cumin.... 4) Stir Fried Chicken Breast, Mushroom, Onion, Zucchini and Sichuan Garlic Sauce in Sizzling Clay Pot. This was a reprieve from the onslaught of spicy dishes. 5) Chicken Fried Rice. This is your standard chicken fried rice. Not a stand out but a safe choice. I came home raving to my husband about this place and started planning my next trip.

Was highly recommended by a friend so we decided to give a try. Walking into the restaurant, I already felt an "uh-oh". I'm not talking about the super clean environment and very warm waiter/waitress, which is not a typical Chinese restaurant and btw these earn them 1 extra star. I'm talking about no waiter/waitress can understand a single Chinese word. Don't get me wrong, I speak English fluently; but speaking their language is the a good way to test whether a new restaurant is as authentic as they claim. Never fails. There're no more than 4 tables taken at 7pm on Saturday. So the dishes came out quite fast as expected. First one is wok stir fried string bean. It looks pretty decent and is the best dish today I have to say. The second dish is Zha Jiang Mian (#8 on Si Chuan Cuisine menu). It looks fancy, but it is ALL wrong. This Zha Jiang Mian uses UDON as the noodle!!!!!!! Can you believe this? Sanuki Udon?! Seriously?! The sauce has nothing but shoyo aka soy sauce and meat. There's no texture, no layers of flavor, just super salty shoyo. And on top of the noodle, there's nothing else but some cucumber. Chef of YiPing - Plz check wikipedia before you try to cook a Chinese dish. The third dish is #21, Braised beef brisket. Not to mention that they over charged us by $3 (I noticed after we left, so don't even bother going back, as we will not go back again ever), they actually used cumin in this dish. CUMIN? it's not lamb. Either the chef is on leave, or he/she is very sleepy while working! 3 dishes in total plus a bowl of rice cost us $50. We were with a toddler and really had no energy to argue bill or anything but this maths doesn't add up. Honestly, I have no idea how they get all these reviews saying nice things. But 4 tables on a saturday evening, i should have known better when I walked into the door. No more thanks.

YiPing Restaurant was kind enough to host Dundada Society's first-ever speed networking event on Thursday, March 8. A friend and I were about to hit the road when we decided to stick around and have some authentic Chinese lunch. We knew it was going to be good. But we had no idea just how good. Alan, the restaurant's owner, told us about the different dishes on the menu. He insists on the highest-quality organic ingredients. Jacqui ordered a stir-fried chicken dish, and I ordered a spicy cod filet dish upon Alan's recommendation. Alan told us he was also going to send us two choice appetizers. The first was four pot stickers in an elegant cone-shaped dish. They exploded with flavor, and the sauce was a perfect blend of salty and spicy. A hard act to follow. But the next dish was a sight to behold and an experience to taste. There were two stuffed eggplants, deep fried in a thick golden-brown breading. It was another staggering blend of flavors. By this time, we were believers--dyed-in-the wool YiPing maniacs. Then came the two main dishes. Alan personally brought them to our table and told us about the ingredients. Both dishes looked like they came straight from the garden. The vegetables were crunchy and green, and the meat was moist and tender--and words cannot describe the sauces. The chicken dish was delicious but conservative. Think of the best stir-fried chicken you've had, and multiply it by a billion. But it was the cod dish that took us to another level of consciousness. Alan warned us it was spicy, and when I saw the deep red sauce full of crushed pepper, I knew there was some Chinese electricity to come. The sauce delivered above and beyond expectations. It was incredibly spicy--but not so spicy that the other flavors disappeared. As with all the dishes, the different notes were blended and balanced. The morsels of cod melted in the mouth. Literally. It was cod on a whole new level, smothered in a hot Chinese sauce, and surrounded by a medley of fresh al dente vegetables. The meal ended with a YiPing signature: a small bowl of fresh fruit, arranged impeccably. Have a bucket list? Put "dinner at YiPing Restaurant" at the top. Six stars from me.

The dishes were not bad... not great but not bad. The decor is a little sparse. It doesn't feel welcoming. The location doesn't help. The Asian ambiance was lacking. If you're looking for authentic, YiPing is not the place to go. Peking Delight near Alcosta Blvd. is tastier.

Had a business lunch here Thursday, around 11:30, after they opened. YiPing was uncrowded, well staffed, and provided excellent and personal service. This was the best meal I had in quite a while, and I dine out often while traveling for business. The food was reasonably spiced, for the items chosen, enhanced with more complex flavors than I am used to, for what I ordered. Too often Chinese food is bland, texture/color is off, and with predictable flavor balance. Not at YiPing. Spices were perfectly balanced and textures were spot-on. They definitely stack up with the better San Francisco Chinese restaurants. Sensory delight... Dinner is a bit pricey, but well worth it. Lunch is an amazing deal.

Went in on a Friday night. Maybe 5 tables taken. Sat at table for 15 minutes without anyone noticing. Service was horrible. Manager was off. Maybe that's the reason. First time here and honestly why go back, could cut the snobbery from the staff with a knife. No thanks. Guess they feel since people have blown them up on Yelp! They can now treat customers as an option instead of a necessity.

My husband and I tried YiPing last night based on all of the good Yelp reviews. My husband loves Chinese food and could have it every night for dinner. I'm just lukewarm on Chinese food, so finding a really good place, that I'm willing to go to a lot, helps cure my husband's cravings. I was super impressed with the food at YiPing. It was flavorful and very fresh. Our waiter Patrick was excellent! He recommended the Orange Chicken and the Chow Fun Noodles. We got both and loved them. My husband also ordered the won ton appetizer, which normally comes with a spicy sauce. I mentioned to Patrick that I can't handle spicy food, so he thoughtfully brought the won tons out with the sauce on the side and a mild sauce for me to eat. We didn't even ask him to do this, but I'm glad he did because the won tons were excellent. We will definitely return and will ask for Patrick to wait on us again.

Ok food but excellent waiter service. Food is average and nothing special. Due to the lack of restaurants in tri-valley, there's not that many good Chinese restaurants in this area. Customers beware that not all restaurants are good in the area.

Just had dinner here tonight for the first time. FABULOUS! This is not your 'ordinary' Chinese restaurant. Lovely decor, upscale yet not overpriced, knowledgeable and friendly service. The owner was on hand to greet us and check in during dinner. We were served a complimentary appetizer of light, crispy spring rolls followed by several delectable entrees. The ingredients are fresh, organic, their sauces are light and delicious and their presentation is lovely. Big mugs of tea are a warm welcome and they have a decent wine list They are happy to accommodate dietary needs. This is a place you want to support...a very nice change for this area...let's keep them here! We will return...often! Enjoyed our second visit and had a great dining and ambiance experience. The food, service, wine and presentation were all once again outstanding. This will be a regular place for me and my friends. After recommending it to some friends, many of them have been and all enjoyed it immensely! And no this is not a fake review. It takes a lot for me to give a business a five star rating. YiPing deserves every star!

2 stars for the appetizers - the pork wontons and the pot stickers, both of which were outstanding. Unfortunately, everything else ranged from mediocre to awful. Hot and sour soup - putrid. My wife and I couldn't eat it, which is the first time i've EVER had a inedible hot and sour soup. Mongolian beef - meh. We got this based on the reviews extolling the wonderful quality of the beef, which after the dish was delivered - left us scratching our heads. The quality of the beef was no different than what you'd get at any of the local chinese joint, and in fact I think it was actually inferior to what you'd get at Peking Delight, China Paradise or Uncle Yu's - but I digress. The beef was laden with gristle, and most of the pieces required you to spit portions of the hard gristle out. Aside from beef and rice, there was nothing else edible on the plate, save for undercooked green onion. The sauce on the beef was ok, but nothing special and there was a complete lack of spice. Orange Chicken - ok. The orange chicken was ok, but nothing special. The portion was really small, and even after eating a good portion of my wife's food (the gristle filled beef and white rice) I was still mighty hungry. The brown rice that was served with it was really dry and mealy, not worth getting. It's nice that they offer brown rice, and don't charge you the obligatory additional $1 most chinese joints charge, but i'd rather pay the extra $1 and have the rice be edible. Service - awful. First of all, they're radically over staffed. While this can be a good thing with well trained staff, with poorly trained staff it is awkward and uncomfortable. To boot, while they were overstaffed, they were all mysteriously out of sight. Keep in mind - they had four folks who were supposed to take care of the front/customers and a full kitchen staff, yet with 8 or so customers in the restaurant there was not a full glass of water to be found and dishes were strangely delivered one at a time. While some of them were ready all at once - instead of bringing them at the same time, they'd bring one out, VERY slowly set it down (so slow to the point my wife and I made eye contact made a strange face and I had enough time to take the plate out of the waitresses hand and just put it down). Then we'd be informed the other dish was ready, and she was going to go get it for us, and about 3 minutes later, she'd very slowly walk over with the dish, carrying it like it was a ticking bomb and painfully put it on the table as if it were about to explode. I honestly thought we were on am hidden camera show, so I started looking around and eventually asked her. She didn't get it - cest la vie. To add insult to injury, they never remembered our drink orders, despite being reminded twice, so all we got was water, seldom filled. The final blow was when the only Asian front staff, presumably the manager/owner (based on his interactions with the staff and him being dressed casually, where as the rest of the staff was strangely overdressed) came out and engaged the other (at that point) three tables, wanting to know what they thought of the food, areas for improvement, etc. While this is all well and good, and while I normally wouldn't have thought much of him making eye contact with us, passing us by and querying the table next to us on their experience, I couldn't help but notice we were the only non-asian table and he only seemed to care about the opinions of his asian clientele. No problem bud, we weren't planning to come back anyway. Should you want superior service, better food and much larger portions, i'd strongly suggest taking a look at Peking Delight. They deliver, are less expensive, much larger portions, have better food and great customer service. The location of YiPing has long been the kiss of death - in that every restaurant that has taken up location there in the last 15+ years has gone out of business within 1-3 years. I'll bet a significant amount of money that based on the poor location, difficult parking, abundant competition, poor service and poor food, YiPing will be just another notch on that locations belt. I look forward to trying the next restaurant soon to reside in that space.

Finally! Healthy Chinese food with organic and sustainable ingredients. This place is so good :) The spicy cauliflower is my favorite so far, along with the crispy shredded beef and hot and sour soup. Take out and delivery are always a plus too!

I typically drive from Danville to Pleasant Hill for my Chinese food takeout. A long way to go but I have found the food at Sichuan Fortune worth it. When I saw that the same owners of Sichuan Fortune had opened a restaurant in San Ramon I had to check it out. I had takeout last night and was not disappointed. I had the Stuffed Eggplant, Crispy Scallion Pancake, Stir Fried Beef Loin with Asparagus, and Dan Dan Noodles. All were excellent, and I really like the recyclable packaging. I'm looking forward to eating at the restaurant and not making the long drive to Pleasant Hill.

The ambiance and the presentation of the food were excellent. For starter, we had the pork wontons with spicy Sichuan garlic sauce and the stuffed eggplants. They were both excellent. I especially enjoy the pork wontons. The skins were very thin with lots of pork fillings. For entree, I had the stir fried chicken breast clay plot. Everything was perfectly marinated, and the sauce goes very well with the rice. My friend had the beef lion which was excellent too. The beef was cooked perfectly. The servers were very attentive as well. I even got a new set of utensils after my starters.

We know Allen Shi from his Sichuan Fortune House in Pleasant Hill. We loved the authentic food there. When Iping is opened we decided to give that a try. The food was excellent! We can taste the freshness of the higher quality meat and vegetables. My favorites there were Mongolian beef and beef chow fun. The ambiance is great and the place was really clean. If you sign up for their newsletter on their website, they'll even send you a $20 gift certificate. Happy chowing.

Very good Chinese restaurant. Not your typical greasy cuisine. More simple and Pan-Asian. A few of the dishes were oily, but some were not and were quite different and tasty. Very pleasant decor--modern. The background music is a bit loud and we had to ask for it to be turned down so we could hear each other talk. Overall would recommend it.

I have been here twice in the past month. Great orange chicken and pot stickers. Food very tasty!! Not as fast as some Chinese restaurants but quality speaks for the time. Need to sweep the cobwebs. Wish they had better Asian beer selection.

YiPing, or "man who eats too fast" in Mandarin, is refined Chinese with a true Sichuan bent. I hate when a Chinese restaurant calls itself or its food Sichuan without even using any Sichuan peppers! This place has both Americanized Chinese and Sichuan dishes. YiPing, or Cantonese for "fat man rubbing tummy", is most certainly worth a try if you like good Chinese food - whatever YiPing actually means.

I visited YiPing tonight with high expectations and some reservations. High expectations because it was highly recommended by my fellow foodie cousin... and reservations because "can it really be THAT good?" I'm happy to say, I was blown away by the food. We tried a number of different dishes, including: - Fried eggplant pockets - Mongolian beef - Seafood claypot - Dan Dan noodles - Sauteed lotus roots - Braised fish - Chinese pork belly ... and more You can taste the natural flavors of each ingredient - they are fresh and flavorful. The meats did not have the stench you sometimes get when a low quality meat is served. The servings are generous and the price ranges from $8 - $14. We brought the left overs back and they were immediately devoured by our visiting friends. I am definitely a fan and will be back on Thursday night, with more people.

We had our team event here last month... ... this place is brand new with nice décor and beautiful setting; Not you everyday cheap Chinese food place, but the price is very reasonable for what you are getting...services was great, very friend staffs, always come check on us make sure we get what we need.... The food is more fusion style with nice plating, not the average greasy Chinese food; I had seafood clay pot, and it was tasty....they a have good selection of wine and desserts... I will recommend this place for group event or even date night

Went today with a friend thinking it was still Ha's. Have to tell you this is even better! We had the Orange Chicken, Stuffed Eggplant, Chicken Salad, Green Beans and Chicken Hot pot. Am salivating just thinking about it. Will go back and try additional dishes. Not oily, very fresh, organic vegetables. Servers were very nice and the owner came and spoke with us. Definately a fresh and much appreciated approach to Chinese Cuisine. After one visit I am such a fan I put the menu up on my office door.

I am always thrilled with the service and food. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. Fast service, consistently amazing food every time! The higher prices are justified by the fresh, local, and organic ingredients that YiPing sources. I'd rather pay a little more knowing that I was getting superior ingredients. I do wish that they would offer more gluten-free options (using tamari sauce instead of soy would be great!) YiPing is a true San Ramon gem that I enthusiastically recommend!

Full disclosure: I am bilingual and an overseas Chinese, lived much of my life growing up in Taiwan, am extremely picky when it comes to good food. If you like Szechuan style Chinese food (relatively spicy), care about quality ingredients, ambiance, and have a thing for discovering special hole-in-the-wall restaurants - you will fall in love with this quaint little restaurant. They are a bit difficult to find and tucked away in the Crow Canyon Shopping Place plaza behind a billiard bar; but certainly worth the effort to dine there if you are ever in the San Ramon/Danville/Pleasanton area. I would even say this is my favorite small Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area at the moment due to its unique blend of flavor, service, and ambience. On the dinner menu, the flavors are authentically Szechuan. Water-cooked fish and beef, spicy friend eggplant, and spicy wontons are excellent (you can also get the eggplant and wontons on the lunch appetizer menu, which I highly recommend.) The wontons are made to near perfection, with the right balance of pork stuffing to wonton skin, cooked perfectly al dente and them finished with a slightly spicy garlic infused broth. One of my favorite red-oil wonton (hong you tzao sou) joints growing up in Taiwan closed down over a decade ago - and I was surprised to find this restaurant in San Ramon (of all places) to serve wontons that were delightfully similar to those I only thought were relegated to memory from my youth. On the lunch menu, I have sampled two entrees - the black pepper beef and clay pot chicken. Both were excellent. I typically am not one of those Yelpers who writes on every culinary episode they encounter. What inspired me to write this posting was due to what I personally feel are inaccurate assertions that the flavors served by this restaurant is not authentic Chinese. San Ramon and Danville are diverse communities skewed towards upper middle class diners with diverse tastes. While this restaurant provides only western utensils upon being first seated, the decor and colors hints of a spa rather than your typical authentic Chinese restaurant, and the wait staff is western and not Chinese - it is my belief this is merely a business decision by the owners to focus on the local demographics living in this area. As of such, some of the items on the menu may skew a bit towards western tastes (but those should be obvious - if you order orange beef, you cannot but expect that to have non-traditional Chinese favors in it since it is a byproduct of pan-Asian American tastes.) I had the chance to talk with the chefs and while I am not from Szechuan, I could tell from their accents that they were. For Chinese patrons or those who wish to order more traditional Szechuan fare, that flexibility is always available to you in a separate dinner menu, which you can order from at any time. One only needs to open your mind and perhaps close your eyes for just a second to fully appreciate this little Szechuan restaurant in San Ramon for what they are attempting. Their lunch prices are a touch higher than typical Chinese restaurants, but in my humble opinion, certainly well worth the taste, service, and experience.

I am a Taiwan native and I have been searching around for really good authentic Chinese pancakes. Eureka! First time time at the restaurant today. Greeted and received excellent service throughout the meal. I was skeptic about getting some real authentic Chinese food and I was thoroughly impressed. I ordered the zha jiang noodle, five spice beef pancake, and hunan minced pork with baby bok-choy. It was a lot of food for one person. Even though the food was so yummy, I had to pack it home the rest. You can taste the quality and freshness of the ingredients. Eager to try out more of the menu. Beautiful decor inside. If I had a date, I would bring her here. The wait staff are excellent. They don't cramp you in one area of the restaurant, so people are evening spread out so you can really enjoy your meal at peace. I was excited about my discovery and I called up my mom to let her know, where I will bring her next time when she comes visit. bon appetite!

Very authentic Chinese food. Food was OK tasting but what's the deal with TINY portions? Worst part was charging $2 for bowl of rice which was really a tiny scoop. Shame on them for cheating customers on rice portion as it must have costed them less than a dime for it. And there were too many white people - sign of ahem not so good Chinese restaurant.

This restaurant is not your typical Chinese restaurant. The atmosphere is not typical, and the food also is not typical. To begin with the service people generally do not speak Chinese, and are not Chinese. But most of the food is Chinese, some very well prepared, and some not prepared in the traditional style. Most of it is quite good, but not all. The dumplings are much larger than one might expect, and not to my taste. To their credit, the do make some dishes that are hard to find in other places.

I'll bump this to 5 stars after i actually sit and dine there. Got delivery 3x,, Picked up once since delivery driver was off, it was a Tuesday night, so slow night which was fine. Great food, friendly, attentive staff. The restaurant looked very nice inside, so looking forward to having a sit down there soon.

I gave Yi Ping another shot after a snafu the first time I tried to dine there. I was very pleased with their lunch prices and the quality of the organic chinese food was terrific. The service at Yi Ping was top notch - very attentive and extremely friendly. The location is close to Bishop Ranch and the ambiance is great. I'd recommend Yi Ping to friends for lunch.

Great service but the food was just pretty decent. Not great. I'd give them a 4+ for service and 3 for food. I had high expectations given all the rave reviews but left a bit disappointed that it wasn't as good as the hype.

My family loves this place. We've had the DanDan noodles, which are amazingly tasty and somehow even better the next day as leftovers (I couldn't wait to nuke it and just ate them cold - delicious!). The shrimp with walnuts dish is also really good, on the sweet side, and the Mongolian beef dish is so yummy that there were no leftovers. We find the portions to be shareable and not at all small, though it may be less than you are used to getting at other run-of-the-mill, lower-quality Chinese restaurants. You can taste the freshness of their ingredients in every bite. This place is worth seeking out.

Brought my in-laws (read: picky eaters) here for a Sunday dinner last week. As had been my prior experience here, the food is fresh and flavorful (the eggplant dishes - both the entree and the appetizer - are a MUST try; I am also a huge fan of their green beans). In the addition, the service was fast (though I think the waitress forgot to be warm and friendly until the latter part of the meal, but she was decent and efficient). This is definitely a place I'd bring both business associates as well as family.

Got to the restaurant around 5:45PM on a Saturday night, and the owner told us they did not have room for us even though a whole wing was clearly empty from the reception area. The owner and the receptionist were unfortunately pre-occupied with a big mess-up from lunch and letting their earlier mistakes impact their dinner business. Very unfortunate first introduction to a restaurant we really wanted to like, but with the cold shoulder we were given and how they handle pressure, we won't be giving them a second chance. Groupon buyers beware.

Not the typical Chinese food. The staff are very nice and service was quick. We were told if we "like" on Facebook we would get a free starter, I couldn't get service on my smartphone where I was sitting but they gave us the wontons in a wonderful sauce. Not the usual fried wontons in a Chinese restaurants. All of our dishes were very tasty but with strong salt taste. Small lunch menu and each course has it's own price point. The hot tea is not included which was a surprise to us. No chopsticks on the table but a fork & knife were provided. Food is very fresh. I also think msg is used. Nice environment. Lunch time crowd mild not crazy busy. Not sure when we will be back but if you are up for the non-typical Chinese restaurant I think you will enjoy this place. Remember all courses are inclusive.... that's the reason for the 3 stars.

Came here as had a livingsocial voucher. Chinese/Szechuan in the local area is usually a bit blah and bland so wasnt too hopeful - but I was totally proven wrong. Had the crispy beef, chow mein, pancakes and pork belly (2 people). Waiter was polite and funny, and very attentive. Decor is really nice - suprising considering the outside is very generic san ramon. Food came out quickly and was fresh. awesomely spicey (and we were warned) and delicious. Portions are generous - had to take 2 to go boxes home (and ate it all the next day) coming here again - yummy!

I can't even begin to describe how good this place is. Every time we go we always get potstickers, chow mein, Mongolian Beef, the occasional spicky garlic wontons or eggplant...OHMYGOD, the eggplant...and a new thing each time. Every single thing is delicious. Words cannot describe...you just have to try for yourself.

Came here for a lunch and enjoyed the lunch specials: both sizzling clay pots are great. A friend ordered the vegetarian eggplant appetizer, my friend and I shared the potstickers and pork wontons which were quite good. Added the pea shoots vegetable entree and that was nice. Service was excellent and they were very attentive since we arrived when they just opened for the lunch crowds.

We have been to Yi Ping twice, one for lunch and one for dinner, we like it very much. The restaurant is nice and modernly decorated. All dishes we tried were not authentic Sichuan food, but we like the way they were. We had Garlic Bacon, Eggplant appetizer, Dandan Noodle, and Seafood Claypot, we enjoyed very much, esp. the eggplant appetizer and the sea food claypot, they did a great job. The service were very good too. We strongly recommend this restaurant.

My husband and I had dinner last night at YIPing. What a treat. The food was fresh and lovely flavors. I have to say the best brown fried rice with beef I have ever had. Subtle flavors and seasoned perfectly. We had the shrimp with melon, outstanding and the chcken and vegetable in clay pot. WOW, you have to to and expereince this new restaurant. Lovely service as well. You can sign on to ther website for a $20 gift certificate. It's a Win Win all the way. Enjoy!!!

Oh dear, I feel like I was duped. I figured that with the local hype about this restaurant and the Yelp reviews, we would be safe. Especially on Chinese New Year. But alas, no. This was, perhaps, the worst and most embarrassing meal I have hosted in a long time. The waitress was forgetful and patronizing -- in a bad way. The food all tasted the same. I tried the special meal in honor of Chinese New Year and that may have been the biggest mistake. I used my emailed gift certificate and they did not fulfill the promise of a cookbook for signing up for the newsletter. I did my civic duty, to try a new restaurant in my home town. I will not be coming back.

Lunch with family, I had the Beef Orange, thin slices, a little heavy on sauce, but very good. Came here today, on a Sunday, and they offered the lunch specials, so I added the wontons for about $2 more, well worth it, they were excellent. Hot and sour soup was ok. My wife loves this place, I think as I just wrote this, I am going to give this place five stars instead of four. My wife had spicy cod clay pot, and it was spicy, if you do not like too spicy, definitely ask them to take it down a notch; we also had the pea shoot and green beans. I was trying to look at their menu online to talk about some other dishes we had, but their menu is not updated, there is no noodle section, and they had noodles on the menu today, and my son loved it so much, said he wants it everyday! He is seven. My daughter had a chicken clay pot, she is eight and also really liked her dish. I just now have to convince my work group to come here. They hear organic Chinese food, they think foo foo and expensive, wrong on both accounts, not very expensive at all, and place looks really nice, but definitely casual dining. I can't believe I was about to submit review without talking about service, which was excellent. Place was not packed, but as the waitress was serving a very large table, either the owner or manager (I did not ask), came in and took our order; there was no wait for us on the service. The "guy" that took our order was a lot of fun, very happy and nice, I am really looking forward to seeing him again, and our waitress, did an excellent job with the rest of the meal. I think I will come here tomorrow.

YiPing is the best Chinese food I have tasted. Allen makes sure that every customer is greeted, and makes them feel welcome and at home. He has a great staff that is very good and doing the same, making you feel welcome and at home. His food is full of great flavors, and awesome. I give it five stars, two thumbs up, and will return again and again. Thanks Allen for working so hard and providing such a great environment with good food. HIGH FIVE!!!!!

Overpriced and underwhelming. First of all, do your cleaning at night! I usually judge new restaurants by how they smell when I open the door. No one wants to walk in to a wall of disinfectant odor when anticipating delicious lunchtime aromas. Before I could turn around and walk out (which I usually do when smells like that greet me in a restaurant) the hostess whisked me to the back wall saying that she knew it smelled like PineSol so it would be better there. It wasn't. For that reason alone, I ended up leaving with my lunch packed in a plastic container - not biodegradable or "green" or "eco" which is their big advertising hook.. Secondly, the lunch menu is very limited. $9 for hot and sour soup, rice and an entree. A starter is $2 more, a vegetable side dish is $4 more. Tea, which comes as a tea bag, is $1. I did not want the soup but the price was not adjusted. Maybe it was the overwhelming smell of disinfectant, or maybe the cup smelled of soap but for whatever reason the tea was undrinkable and was taken off the bill without questions. I've never been to a Chinese restaurant with only 5 or 6 meat entrees (mostly beef or chicken and one seafood dish which has 4 types of seafood plus tofu in a single offering). It's possible to order one of the 5 or 6 vegetable side dishes as an entree, which is what I did. The starters for lunch all include meat (dinner has an onion pancake). As a vegetarian promised local organic produce I was extremely disappointed by having only two dishes that included protein (tofu) and no starters I could try. Then my meal arrived and I was bowled over by the sodium content. The tofu was handled well - a chewy exterior and creamy interior - the bok choy was cooked well, and the sauce was tasty but the overall saltiness made the dish hard to enjoy. I left with more than half uneaten. The staff is friendly and helpful. My own waitress was nowhere in sight when I wanted to leave and a different one noticed me without prompting and packed up my lunch and later she picked up my payment. I must also mention when my own waitress asked how things were and I told her the food was too salty, she said I need only mention wanting my food less salty next time and they'd be glad to prepare it that way. Is it really the patron's responsibility to be sure food is not oversalted? By the way, if you're going to tout "local and organic" as your major draw, I'd like to know where in California the watermelon and grapes grow that were in the complimentary (instead of fortune cookies) ending of the meal. Maybe with the orange segment you should put other local, seasonal fruit. It's a nice touch but could be done more in line with your stated intent. In the end, I was glad my choices were limited or I might have spent $16 on a small and over-salted lunch instead of "only" $9. I look forward to trying some of the other restaurants mentioned here. I'm amazed at how hard it is to find really good Chinese restaurants in this area. I've had far better in *upstate* NY (not NYC) which has a much smaller Chinese population. BTW - I ended up dropping the remaining tofu and bok choy (minus sauce) into a soup instead of using salt.

My husband and I went to this Restaurant for lunch after reading an article about it on San Francisco Chronicle. The first impression was - such an elegant place - not too big, not too small, very clean, warm and welcoming. The owner must have a good taste on setting and decoration - very intimate and romantic. We both are big fan of Sichuan food, so we directly went to the Sichuan Menu and tried to order spicy "Braised Cod Fillets, Cabbage, Celery, Leeks, Drizzled with Sichuan Spicy Sauce with rich Sichuan Pepper Corn and Chili Oil", but the waitress honestly told us this item was also on Lunch Menu and much cheaper. We were so happy about it and made two orders from lunch menu. The food was delicious! The fish was very fresh and cooked into perfection. The taste was authentic Sichuan style - tasty, spicy and a tingly numbness in the mouth. It was so good that I did not want to waste any bit of it. After the lunch, I asked the waitress to pack the leftover sauce into a container and brought it back home. At home, I heated it up, added some salt then put in one package of soft tofu and some available vegetables - it became another delicious dish on my dinner table. Anyway, we went back again several days later and tried other items for dinner. We were not disappointed, we even like the background music playing... We are so happy - finally, we don't have to drive far for the authentic Sichuan food anymore!

I am happy this place is local since it's so good! I've only called in to order take out, and my order is always ready by the time I get there. The employees that have helped me have been polite, professional, and always gracious (meaning they don't seem frazzled or rushed to get me off the phone if I have a question about the menu). Things we have ordered: fried rice, chow mein with seafood (I guess it's a few dollars more to get a seafood mix, but the selections were really fresh and came with a good combination of scallops - ok, maybe just one, shrimp, calamari, and fish), orange peel beef, mongolian beef, the delicious (if not a little pricy) lightly fried shrimp with melons and walnuts, scallion pancakes, and homey wonton soup. The pro for sure here is that the food tastes fresh, clean, and makes you feel good after you eat it. Cons are that the food is a little expensive for what it is/how much you get, especially compared to comparable local places.

Lunch reviews (October visit): I've read good reviews from restaurant critics and they were recommended by a friend so I brought my little one with me for a fancy lunch. The decor is very nice, the service good and the food is very fresh and made to order. The house made pot stickers were excellent. The skins were tender on one side crisp on the other with a delicate pork filling. The orange chicken was crisp but moist and not over sauced. My second visit we tried the stuffed eggplant, seafood claypot and cod fillets. The seafood was delicate & fresh. You can tell they take great care in making good quality food and they check to make sure it is prepared the way you like it.

I wanted to up-date my review of Yi Ping. First of all, the only reason I criticize the restaurant is that I want them to continually improve and stay in business because I LOVE their food. Since the review where we had a couple of mediocre "delivered" meals we've had multiple subsequent delivery and in restaurant meals that were fantastic. Even if you are not a huge fan of Chinese food, you really must try this restaurant. When we have visited the restaurant over the past year, we are surprised that it isn't packed with a line out the door. The other surprise is that the service is typically pretty mediocre. It's not that they don't try, it is that they are not properly trained and they tend to be pretty young and sociable. Hanging out in the kitchen, behind the bar and everywhere but the tables can be a problem. Doesn't really seem to be a manager in charge. But really, it doesn't matter, just keep the food coming. Older review: This restaurant has been a revelation since it opened with great Szechuan food that rivals the real deal. We either have take out, delivery or visit the restaurant at least 3 times a month. Quality has been phenomenal and have been more than willing to spend the premium to have Yiping's food. Approximating 40-50 family meals with amazingly consistent results. Only variation was that Cumin Lamb had a bit too much cumin the first few months after opening but chef made adjustments. Today we had a miserable experience with the food here. Cumin Lamb, drowning in oil, mushy meat, a whiff of cumin. Chow Fun was almost inedible, cauliflower was again simply drenched in oil and pepper flakes. Clay pot chicken was a mess...Panda would do better. Pea shoots were as good as usual. Obviously after as many great meals as we've had at this place, I'm going to let it slide but only 2 more meals. If the chef is off on another gig then shame on the owner for not training a replacement. Get it together guys, we love your food.

I really wanted to like this place. Food tasted fresh BUT service was poor. It took over 30 minutes to bring out our soup and when the soup came it was the wrong soup. So the waitress told us it would be just a little bit longer, gave us empty bowls and walked off to do other things and did not ask if we needed a refill on our water or soda. She never came to check on us after the rest of the food came. Just disappointing. We used a Groupon and don't plan on coming back.

Excellent Restaurant. Will be going back. Very good ambience and excellent service. Ordered 3 items. 2 were excellent and one of the best we had. The other one, Chow mein, was so so. Was very bland to my taste. Ask for their best tasting Chili sauce. It'll make anything good. Overall really enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend.

Easily the best Chinese food in the tri-valley. The cod hot pot is a must for sichuan lovers. We eat here WAY too often but can't seem to stay away!

YiPing, an interesting place of contradictions. It's located in a pretty nice complex, and it's new - so that explains the clean ambience and fresh decor (love the dim sum boxes on the wall, so creative!). The cuisine is thoroughly asian, no fusion here, but the place definitely has a fusion feel to it. The place itself is trendy and modern in comparison to its traditional dishes. All of the servers in the restaurant were also non-Asian, which was odd to me for such an authentic restaurant (which isn't a bad thing, don't get me wrong), but when I peeked into the kitchen on the way to the bathroom, I saw Chinese cooks inside, which is always a great sign of authenticity. We came with my parents, who had been here a couple times and liked it a lot. We ordered the green onion pancakes and fried eggplant for appetizers, and both were good. However, for about $10 each, the small, definitely "appetizer" size shocked me. I guess I'm used to the hearty portions at more mom and pop shops. We also ordered the spicy fried chicken, the spicy seafood noodle soup, the seafood clay pot, and the spicy monk fish. I know, we ordered a LOT of spicy. The noodle soup, clay pot, and fish were very yummy - I would definitely have these again. However, the fried chicken was disappointing - I've had this same dish at lots of other places, and this is by the far my least favorite interpretation. I wouldn't even call it a chicken dish; it more deserved the name of a CHILI dish. The WHOLE plate was FULL of chili peppers; the waitress even commented on how much there was when she picked it up. It was probably 75% peppers, 25% chicken. How disappointing. I think this place definitely appeals to the type of people that live in the area, so for being very used to this kind of food in different settings, it can be confusing at first. But I would definitely give this place another try, maybe for lunch!

YiPing is in the old Ha's location across from Safeway. It was a high end Vietnamese place (Ao Zai) and Cafe Essen before that. This is a really nice looking place. Looks like they're going for the high end of the market. I had forgotten just how big this place is, even though we've been to all of its incarnations at least once. Haven't been here for quite a while though, Ha's didn't inspire us to return. They have a really interesting lunch menu. $9 entrees include soup and either white or brown rice (nice touch). For $2 you can add an appetizer and for $4 an additional vegetable dish. I had the pork wonton in spicy Sichuan garlic sauce for an appetizer. Thin skin (the way they should be), delicate wontons in a great sauce. Next I ordered the Mongolian beef, which is my yardstick for judging new Chinese restaurants. I almost had to laugh when I got it ... in a good way. The quality of the beef was something that I have never seen at a Chinese restaurant ... ever. And no kidding. It was that tender and flavorful. The local C.C. Times, in the food section this morning, mentioned that this place just opened this week. The food here is a level above any other Chinese restaurant in the Tri-Valley. This area needed another nice restaurant with great food., because there are already too many hole-in-the-wall restaurants with cheap, but bad, food.

After reading some yelp reviews I figured why not give this new restaurant a shot. Guess it wasn't such a great idea. The interior of the restaurant is nice, it used to be Ha's Restaurant but looks much better now. Too bad the food doesn't taste as good as the restaurant looks. The biggest problem with the food is wayyyyy too much oil. Upon opening the bag the first container on the top, which was the combination chow fun, has oil all over the outside of the container and was leaking onto everything else. Not a good way to start. The wonton soup had a layer of oil on the top and the vegetables were a little soggy, I like my broccoli to be a little crispy, not the texture of baby food. The potstickers were okay, the house made soy was decent. All the food was bland and left a layer of oil on the inside of my mouth and down my throat. Thank goodness for tea at moments like this. There are definitely better and less expensive chinese food restaurants in the area. I will not be coming back here any time soon. And to think they have not even had their grand opening yet.

So I would like to preface this review with the fact that I have been looking for a good Szechuan restaurant since I have moved back to California, after spending many months in China. I was hanging out with my niece and nephew in-law who are total foodies like me, they told me that there was a great Szechuan place near their house and we decided that it was the place to go being that I have been on the hunt for authentic food for quite some time. We arrived and much to my surprise the place was totally empty. The hostess seated us and promptly the owner came to the table and we exchanged some banter about the origin of the food. He was very informative. He told me that he was trying to take his roots in Szechuan cooking mixed with fresh organic local products. This amazing fusion of organic California grown products and the skillful palate of a Szechuan gourmet chef create a well rounded authentically exquisite dining experience. Every plate and appetizer we ate was excellent. The wait staff was attentive and the whole experience could repeat several times. I only wish they were closer to my house.

Very tasty, pricey, and tiny portions -- that sums up my experience here. If you have a small appetite, you'll enjoy fresher flavors than you got with Ha's, the previous tenant. If you're adventurous, ask for the full/chinese menu. If you're hungry, go elsewhere. I give them an extra star for using organic produce.

We tried this relatively new spot (Dec 2011 opening) last night. The food, service and ambience all were excellent. The soup with won ton and chicken was KILLER-among the best we have ever had--exceptional flavors in all of the ingredients. This was followed by the crispy egg plant appetizer and then the crispy beef main along with the Dan Dan noodle dish. The food courses were consistently delicious and the spicyness level was right on. Food was served prompty (we did go in early at about 5:15PM) and our server was very friendly, knowledgable and attentive. Also enjoyed the Jasmine tea. Portions were generous. We will go back for sure and recommend to all of our friends! Don't miss it.

Let's talk about the food and not concentrate so much on what the staff did or didn't do. This is the best Chinese food I've had. I am not Chinese but have been married twice to Chinese women, so as you can imagine, I've eaten more than my fair share of Chinese food. Somehow, the taste of the food here is compatible to both American and Chinese taste buds. I believe it is because they concentrate on what makes food good: preparation and freshness of ingredients. Unlike every other Chinese restaurant I've been to, Yiping does not overcook its ingredients and doesn't overwhelm the dish with flavoring that masks the main ingredients. You can taste the meats, the seafood, and the vegetables. And the freshness of those ingredients is very evident. And I've been told that they try to use local, organic ingredients wherever possible. We've been here about once a week since the place opened, and have tried just about every dish (they have a very limited menu for a Chinese place, which I think is a good thing). The last three weekends we visited were a bit crazy because of a rush of Groupon cheapskates and folks wanting to try the latest place with a good review on the Contra Costa Times. I just went today for lunch and was told that those crowds have dimished and they're also better prepared to handle that kind of crowd now. Give this place a try.

Food - have ordered the Teriyaki Chicken a few times. It was good, not great. The teriyaki sauce was very good. Beef fried rice was very good. Portions are small and prices are high. Service - fabulous. Everyone is very friendly and personable. A bit overdressed. Delivery - fast and accurate Overall I'm pleased with YiPing and if the portions and pricing were better matched I'd order from them more frequently and raise their score. One interesting item (to me) - they give apples instead of fortune cookies. The apples smell so fresh and tantalize the senses. UPDATE: July 2013 - Ordered delivery tonight and while the speed and accuracy were good and they're still friendly the food quality has suffered. Maybe it was an off night but the chicken was fatty and the beef too chewy. Disappointed and downgrading to 3-stars as quality took a big hit. :-(

Absolutely delicious EVERY TIME and the service is impeccable. Quality is of utmost importance to the owner and the staff and you can tell by how consistent the experience has been. The hot & sour soup has the perfect balance, the brown rice is always cooked to perfection, the Sichuan garlic sauce on the won tons is a blast of wake-up yum for your taste buds, and the clay pot meals are hearty, healthy, fresh, bright, very flavorful and comforting. It's the sort of place that leads you to want to come back not only for your favorites but drives you to want to try something new as chances are you won't be sorry.

Oh be still my heart! I love this place! Real Sichuan Chinese food that hasn't been dumbed down for American tastes. The pigs ears are divine, as is the Cumin Lamb and Stuffed Eggplant. I intend to go back often and eat my way through the menu. The only reason I didn't rate 5 stars was that the brown rice was too starchy for me. And I really don't care about rice.

We have eaten at YiPing now 3 times since its opened. Last Saturday night we took friends and their kids. The eight of us had a great meal and Alan and his staff did a great job. The prices are reasonable for the quality of food. I'm really surprised that other Yelpers would give this place anything less than 4 stars. My only suggestion would be for the staff to better understand the level of a champagne pour. But with that being said, Alan came by with the bottle and gave our ladies a free refill which was nice! Try this place out and you won't be disappointed.

I was there with a group of about two dozen after a Saturday morning tutorial. The service was a little slow, but they were trying to serve all of us at once. The seafood clay pot was wonderful--so good that someone asked if it was okay to lick the dishes. The reports here on Yelp about serious service problems are disappointing, but they could be overwhelmed from the Groupon. I'll definitely try them again.

I've been to YiPing several times, each with a very pleasant experience. Allen, September, and Andrea are on hand to smile and greet the customers. The chefs do a fabulous job of preparing tasty, zesty delicious meals. Ask Andrea to turn on the disco ball in the back room for a new twist on ambience! There is a 20% coupon if you sign up on their website. My favorite dish is the seafood vegetable dish and the tender beef entries. Delicious each and every time! What I like most is that I can specify how spicy I like my Dan Dan noodles! And you have to save room for the dessert! Yum! I signed up for Yelp just so I can post about how great YiPing is!

Food is excellent....not your typical chinese food, way better. Real food at that not fresh frozen or canned etc. and having "Ashton Kutcher" for your waiter even better. A great lunch and great time with a knowledgeable and friendly staff and fantastic food to boot. and yes the waiter reminded us of "Ashton Kutcher" right down to his personality (well at least Ashtons characters) But really go for the food. The Cumin Lamb is my new favorite lamb dish and the pot stickers were definitely hand made and delicious. I might have to have a pig ear next time...maybe.

Finally, top quality, authentic Chinese cuisine with organic and local-sourced ingredients has arrived in San Ramon! Owner Allen Shi, from the highly successful Sichuan Fortune House in Pleasant Hill, and Executive Chef Quan, from Guanzhou China, very recently opened YiPing Restaurant. As the Tri-Valley area is soulfully lacking of authentic foreign cuisine, compared to San Francisco or Oakland, I was unbelievably excited to hear about authentic Sichuan cuisine coming to San Ramon. I took my Family with two children (ages 9 and 11) to YiPing twice after the restaurant was open for only two or three weeks. All four of us were very happy both times and I am ecstatic that my family has finally found a high-quality neighborhood restaurant that we all agree is delicious. We have had the following items so far (with my hopefully humble and concise comments in parentheses): * Spring rolls $complimentary (fresh, light, crispy, delicious sweet/tangy sauce, but little boring) * Salad with Plum sauce $complimentary (more like a Japanese salad with fresh cucumbers, sweet grape tomatoes, and great dressing that was a tangy with a hint of sweetness) * Four Pieces of Fresh Home Made Pork Pot Sticker $7 (so phenomenal that we had to fight over the last piece) * Crispy Home Made Scallion Pancake with Peanut Dipping Sauce $4 (awesome light and crispy scallion pancakes, but the sauce was more of a creamy Mexican chipotle sauce, with only a hint of peanut flavor, then the expected and more mundane Thai peanut dipping sauce). * Pan Grilled Over Night Marinated Organic Chicken with Teriyaki Sauce, Served with Asparagus $12 (tender, clean chicken and the best sauce the whole family will enjoy; fragrant white asparagus sometimes offered as a delicious alternative to green stalks) * Mongolian Sliced Beef Loin Strips Stir Fried with Fresh Green Onion $12 (delicious tender beef, but not melt-in-your-mouth tender, with local, bright scallions that I thought could use 30 more seconds in the wok to reduce the strong "bite" of the super fresh bulbs) * Stir Fried Coleman Organic Chicken Breast with Fresh Mushroom, Carrots, Onion, Zucchini in Sichuan Garlic Sauce, Served in Sizzling Clay Pot $12 (incredibly tender and juicy, with a great balance of many flavors and aromatics, and a little spicy) * Stir Fried Prawns, Calamari, Fish Filet, Scallop with Mushroom, and Fried Tofu, Served in Sizzling Clay Pot $14 (loaded with delicious tender seafood, but I thought it didn't need the fried tofu) * Mixed Vegetable Fried Rice with Egg and Green Onion $8.5 (clean, fresh vegetables in well seasoned rice, but in hindsight I wish I had ordered it with brown rice instead) Everything we had was clean, fresh, flavorful, and yummy. My kids love chicken teriyaki, but I have never before heard my kids croon about it before. The skinless, boneless, chicken was tender and cleaned properly while the teriyaki sauce tasted bright and not too sweet. It was all neatly arranged on top of a bed of white asparagus segments, the last time we ordered it, giving it a slightly more oniony and garlicky flavor which contrasted nicely with the sweet sauce. My wife really enjoyed the home made pot stickers and described the shallow fried dough as deliciously creamy on top and crispy on the bottom. These small to medium sized dumplings were presented upside down on tiny lettuce strips to keep the crispy side extra crispy and the creamy side extra moist and delicate. The tender pork filling was seasoned perfectly and had us fighting over the last piece. My favorite item was the chicken clay pot with tender breast pieces, wonderful aromas of onion and garlic, and a little bit of heat. The clay pots were meticulously arranged for the perfect baking sequence in the oven by the chef, and stirred together at our table by our waiter to better meld the distinct flavors and textures. The sizzling seafood clay pot was equally delicious with very tender squid, delicate fish, large shrimp, and melt-in-your-mouth, deep sea scallops. As a confirmed carnivore, I would rather have seen more delicious scallops and less firm tofu in the seafood clay pot. We were equally excited to see high quality wines-on-tap. This is another great eco-friendly solution in getting clean, minimally-oxidized, affordable, quality wines by the glass. Google "wines on tap" for more info on this type of product. I have eaten many different dishes at many different Chinese restaurants before, but I have never before uttered this desire until now, "I cannot wait to try each and every item on this menu." We are thrilled to have this high-end Sichuan restaurant serving us fresh, organic, and local ingredients carefully constructed with amazing flavors, presentation, and creativity in a warm, eco-friendly setting.

MSG sufferers beware! I have severe issues with MSG intolerance and always ask if places use MSG before I eat there. When I called YiPing to inquire if they used MSG, I was told "all our food is fresh and organic" and stupid me, I took that to mean no MSG. Wrong! Had a pretty severe MSG reaction. We MSG sufferers know that many places use it without saying so, or flat out lie. This is one of those places.

I hate to write this, I really do. But What a disaster!! This might be long (I'm going to try and make it short). I got a Groupon and was excited to try out YiPing. I haven't been very thrilled with the Chinese food restaurants around here. We got to YiPing at about 6:20 on Friday 3/30. We walked in and my husband and 2 kids headed to the bathroom. Another group was right behind me. First, the hostess says to please have a seat, that she'll be right with me. I let her know that the group behind me wasn't with me, as she seemed to think we were together. She said 'oh' and nodded me to the seats. She then proceeded to ask the group behind me how many people they had, and seated them right away. What??!! I had to point out her error, I have no idea what that was all about, and she seated us. I immediately had concerns - the people right next to us were kind of looking, well, bored. I was wondering how long they had been waiting. We waited over 10 minutes and never saw our waitress. The owner finally comes over and takes our order. It actually doesn't matter very much what we ordered. It was a large soup, 3 dishes and rice. We had to ask for water, again, after another 10 minutes. We waited over 30 minutes, no soup. We finally asked for our soup, and a waitress comes over with 4 dishes and deposits them on the table. 2 weren't what we ordered (actually, only 1 WAS what we ordered, but we didn't realize it at the time). The soup came right after. Good thing we got the 'mistaken' food (was probably for another table, but heck...), because we couldn't get anything else. So we have our soup, and 2 dishes. No rice. The kids are starved, they start on the soup and the dishes, without rice. We ask for rice again. It's just not coming. It was just white rice??!! Finally, the bartender, who had been doing double duty, happens by and we ask about the rice and our other dish. He gets the rice. The dish, not so much. We keep asking for it, it keeps not coming. We NEVER received it. We still don't even know who our waitress was. NEVER saw her, to our knowledge. So, so disappointed. I have to say, however, that the food was really phenomenal. But I'd be hard pressed to come back. I felt incredibly bad for the owner. I really wonder what the heck happened. Did someone(s) call out? Groupon traffic more then he imagined? We had a terrible experience.

Went to YiPing tonight due to the SRV Times review on Thursday. I found the food to be extra ordinary when I could get it served. The service was right out of the Seinfeld episode with George at the Chinese restaurant. The wait staff seemed totally confused about customer service. There was not one table that was not happy tonight. People were getting up and walking out without paying. Honestly I think that you could get better customer service at San Quentin. This was a complete comedy of errors and was well worth the experience. Where else can you have dinner and a comedy show at the same time.

Really surprised by this place. In an area where I consider there to be a dearth of good Chinese food, I really loved this place. My husband and I stopped by for an early dinner on Saturday night. I think we got there shortly after 5pm. We were the only ones there. We ordered Mongolian Beef, Chicken Clay Pot, and Veggie Chow Fun. I thought it was all delicious. The Mongolian Beef was my favorite, it wasn't overly sweet and syrupy, like some places do it. The clay pot was just the right amount of spice and a nice anise flavor with a caramelized sauce that made it a really interesting dish. Chow fun was good, not enough veggies for a veggie chow fun, but it was still good. They don't make dessert there, but they have partnered with a local home business baker (I want to say Belle's Cupcakes?) and they only had 2 flavors, vanilla and lemon, with 2 sizes to choose from. Hubby and I decided to split a mini lemon one and it was delicious! A perfect balance of bright, sparkling lemon flavored cake to the creamy vanilla cream cheese frosting. The perfect ending bite! Will definitely be back.

I came in here as a group of four. Food was a bit pricey for Chinese, but that's understandable considering the restaurant's focus on organic ingredients. We started with the Crispy Stuffed Eggplant and Scallion Pancake appetizers, both of which were pretty good. The eggplant was well balanced, not too heavy/greasy. Since I'm a hole-in-the-wall Chinese kind of guy, ambiance was a bit more ritzy than what I'm used to. Maybe if I'm lucky, I'd take a girl out to this place for a date. Next was the Tofu and Mushroom Soup, which was good but they need to do something about the bowls. They're easy to tip over, so be careful. The Chicken Clay Pot and Sauteed String Beans were delicious, but the Smoked Pork Belly was a bit on the salty side. As for the staff, they were all extremely friendly and the owner was extremely helpful in helping us pick from the menu. Isaac was attentive (and good-looking) and he offered us all organic apples on our way out.

We had a delicious dinner last night at Yiping restaurant. The food was awesome and all organic. We had an amazing chicken dish with mushrooms and garlic. Mongolion beef dish ( My 3 year old loved it) and cucumber/chicken/salad and brown rice. The green beans were perfect ( 3 year old loved this dish). The dessert was incredible lemon cupcakes and vanilla cupcakes. We will definately go back for another meal!! Nancy and Richard Temple

We had dinner at YiPing last night, and had a chance to meet the owner. He's running some great specials for the Chinese New Year, with some special dishes. I'm a big fan of the cumin beef and the spicy dumplings.

Love this place. The food is great, and my favorite part about the ingredients is that they're all organic and bought from local farmers (I'm all about supporting local businesses). The lunch special is very affordable and the appetizers are incredible. Definitely recommend it.

We are actually fans of YiPing's sister restaurant, Sichaun Fortune House in Pleasant Hill. Until now, Sichuan Fortune House has been the only Chinese restaurant we go went to b/c most folks in our family can do better than most "Chinese" restaurants. The distance to either Sichaun Fortune House or YiPing from our home is about the same, so we thought we'd give YiPing a try and have been here twice. I think that most of YiPing's Sichuan offerings are on the Sichuan Fortune House menu - the dishes just have different names; however, YiPing's selection is quite a bit smaller so that YiPing can make the dishes with very high quality ingredients (it's hard to do that if your menu contains a large number of dishes). I have never tried the Cantonese offerings at Sichuan Fortune House, b/c I know that their strength is in their Sichuan offerings, but on the advice of the Mercury News review, we tried several of YiPing's Cantonese dishes and they (like the Sichuan dishes) were all excellent. If you have not been to either restaurant before, ask your waitperson for advice - some dishes are saltier/spicier than others. Folks I know who are competent to judge Sichuan food say the Sichuan dishes at both YiPing and Sichuan Fortune House are both terrific and authentic. In response to a couple other reviews: I can't see what the fuss about MSG is. Per the FDA, there is no evidence that MSG is harmful to the vast majority of ppl and a pinch most definitely improves flavor. And, it's pretty arrogant to expect to be seated without reservations just before the dinner rush at a small restaurant on a weekend following a highly favorable review by the Merc food columnist. We will likely be going to Sichaun Fortune House more often than YiPing, primarily because the Sichuan offerings at the former are more extensive - and I really miss the duck when I'm at YiPing. However, we'll go to YiPing when we want a classier atmosphere or if we're taking someone who prefers Cantonese over Sichuan food. You're unlikely to go wrong at either place!

Love thins restaurant. Went for the first time over the weekend. All the dishes and sauces were excellent. Ingredients are fresh. I work one block from Chinatown in San Francisco. Better than anything I can get there:)

Although a bit pricey, the quality is very good. I like that the chicken is organic. The lamb with cumin and peppers is excellent! Stuffed eggplant was yummy. The owner is very friendly and aims to please. Nice to have a quality Chinese restaurant in the area.

I love Chinese Food, especially good, out of the ordinary Chinese food. This place rocked! Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the food ingredients and the different types of hot tea they have...it's a very impressive list of teas. The food was great. I went with my mom, mother in law, daughter, and bestie. We all had the same opinion - we loved the food and are definitely coming back. We had the stuffed eggplant appetizer YUM! Chicken soup with sizzling rice YUM! Orange chicken, which is the typical orange chicken only it tastes fresher than most. Had a couple of Schechwan (sp?) clay pots and the teriyaki chicken/asparagus and the lettuce wraps. The clay pots had just the right amount of heat, even my daughter liked it and she is a picky eater when it comes to "spicy" food. All in all I loved the place. The food taste very fresh and "clean". The restaurant is relaxing and enjoyable.

I would add comments on the several posts regarding waiting very long or coming back to be served. I had the same experience on one of the weekend. It was during lunch time. More than half of the place was empty. We were standing at the entrance and no one greeted us. After standing there for more than 20 minutes, I finally got a chance asking one of the waiter passing by. He told me that they were too busy so we have to wait. I pointed out that more than half of the place was empty and wanted to be seated at least. He said even though you sit there we won't have time to serve you. I asked why and the answer was we had a small kitchen. I guess that was true because it took very long time to get all of our orders later. Some dishes were good some were OK. I guess I cannot compare the foods from Fremont or SF. I really want to give another try but thinking of the long waiting, I could not do it. What I am puzzled was that when they built that place they did not think about matching the size of kitchen with the seats? Can't believe that. I also noticed that the servers were not very experienced. The waitress we had was not working efficiently. So the service I can give 1 star and the food is about 3 star.

I'll probably go back. We went on a Saturday night and they stuck us/everyone in the back, dark room. Almost didn't walk in the door in the beginning since the restaurant looked empty. Food was good, fresh vegetables; want to SUPPORT restaurants that have ORGANIC items on their menu. Some of their sauces could use a little work - they tasted the same. Service was fine. Owner/mgr came out to greet a few tables.

Really wanted to like this restaurant because they try to use organic ingredients, make items fresh, etc. But the service was a complete nightmare. The owner said they were unprepared for the Groupon traffic. It went beyond that. They seated my wife and I and our two kids. No set ups, no water. No waitress for 30 minutes. They sat two other parties after us. Still no service. Then the waitress finally comes over and starts to take the order of the last table they seated. The owner came by and I flagged him down and said "no way...they should not have their order taken first, they were seated 15 minutes at least after us. " He takes our order and promises ours will go in first and we would get our food first. Wrong. They get their food, soup and appetizers....and WATER. We still don't have anything. But we realize if we leave it will take us just as long to get food at a new place. The family sitting next to us who were seated after us but before the last table bail. The father is frantically using his smart phone I assumme to write a bad review. A new couple get seated at that same table. No water....no set ups. My wife takes our oldest for a walk and she says she will tell them to bring us water as she sees I am pissed. She comes back from their walk around the plaza and notices I am walking to the front, she asks why. "To ask them to bring water!" "You mean they still haven't brought water?" "No!" Just then they finally show up with water and the first part of our order....food at last. The owner brings over an appetizer on the house which was a nice gesture. But my youngest found a hair on it. Ok....by now people are probably asking, "and you still stayed???" Sadly, yes. We were starving and our kids were very hungry. We ordered brown rice and they came out with white rice. The waitress came out later and asked if we wanted refills on our water....which we needed because being without for so long earlier. Her filling up our water was the last straw for the couple next to us....we got refills and they still had no water, no set ups and no service. They also left the restaurant. This restaurant lost two customers right there probably for eternity because of the service. I understand things get busy but my gosh...how about a little hustle to at least bring waters, set ups and acknowledge your customers are there? The food itself was actually pretty good and that wasn't just because we were starving. My oldest son left a book at the restaurant under the table and we didn't realize until later so I drove back...probably 30 minutes after we left and our table hadn't been bused at all. It wasn't that crowded at that point and it was kind of shocking that they would leave our dirty plates untouched for so long. Maybe it was the perfect storm of a Groupon onslaught. We actually bought a Groupon but couldn't use it that night so we will probably give it one more shot on the least busy night we can find. Food (excluding errant hair) A- ...Service F------ Worst I have probably ever had. If we experience anything remotely like the last time we will never return. They better get their act together or they will be closing their doors.

we recently moved to the area and asked about for restaurant recos. yiping was highly recommended by several different people. it also had high ratings on yelp, so we gave it a try. the restaurant is a little upscale, with modern decor -- which, as chinese restaurants go, usually means crappy americanized food. not the case, here. we've now eaten there a handful of times and everything we've tried has been really good. my husband says the postickers are the best he's ever had (they are also made in house and HUMONGOUS). i know what you're thinking -- potstickers can be pretty "american". but really, the food is authentic chinese. they even have a separate sichuan menu that offers black fungus, chitlins, pork kidney and other things that i won't eat. the reason why i love this place is because it is super clean and they offer gluten-free and vegan options (and happily accommodate other dietary restrictions). that is virtually unheard of in a chinese restaurant, but oh so critical for my daughter who has a wheat and peanut allergy and my niece who has a sesame allergy. we had given up on eating out at chinese restaurants until we found yiping. so why not 5 stars? the lunchtime service is not consistently great. maybe understaffed for the lunch rush? i dunno. oh, and here's a tip. if you are in their delivery area, they'll deliver your food for $1. what a deal!

To all of the people that don't eat Chinese food in San Ramon, your prayers have been answered! I'm sorry it took me this long to come here, especially now that I'm in my final 2 weeks in SR. I've known about this place since it opened *gasp This is a very modern restaurant with great ambience. With that said, this is not your typical fast food Chinese place. It is a nice sit down type place. I wasn't super impressed with service but it was still decent. I will say up front that I'm a huge fan of Sichuan cuisine so be open minded if you're never tried it. I had their chicken breast in a claypot as my entree for my lunch special. I've had this dish before but it's been labeled as claypot chicken. It comes with veggies, a nice spiced sauce and fresh cilantro. You get a cup of hot and sour soup that's hot and fresh. It wasn't the best (I prefer more ingredients) but for a lunch portion it's plenty. You can add an additional starter for only $2 more. My coworker got some dumplings in a Sichuan sauce (note: same sauce used in claypot). You also get rice with your entree. If you're sick of the fast food, steam table Chinese food you're eating, come here and get something fresh and delish!

Upon arriving we were abruptly greeted and shown quickly to a seat. Place was empty except for one other couple yet didn't give us much face time. Ordered the "house" wine thinking ok $6-8 dollars. Each glass was $10!!! Not only were they extremely pricey, but they were very skimpy pours. The food was good but don't expect a good dining experience.

I'm disappointed. I really like YiPing's food but I was really disappointed on my last take-out order. The egg rolls looked great - and then I turned one over to find that the underside of one of the egg rolls was completely burned. They hid it by putting the good side up. The food at YiPing is high quality, and it's priced accordingly. I'm happy to pay for good food, but I am disappointed that someone decided to risk YiPing's reputation for one measly egg roll. Bad form, YiPing! Assuming I go back, I will update.

Thanks Groupon for allowing me to discover this wonderful restaurant. We had the braised cod and curry lamb. My bf and I were in heaven as both dishes were so flavorful. We loved it so much that we were craving for YiPing the next day. The only downfall to the place is the service. They really only have to waitresses and the night we came, it was very busy hence they were too overwhelmed. If they can fix the staff issue, then this place will be a sure hit. Fan of the food, but service could be a bit better.

My parents and I went here for the first time for New Year's. It wasn't overly crowded, but there was definitely a dinner crowd. All the same, service was prompt, very friendly, and helpful in our deciding what to order. We got the wontons and eggplant as starters, then the chicken clay pot, marinated cod, and the honey walnut prawns. All of it was fantastically prepared and flavorful - particularly the clay pot, which I'm pretty sure that I will see in my dreams for the next five years or so. The wontons were also delicious, and reminded me of the way my mother makes them, except in a sauce! YUM! While the food was more than enough to bring us back many times over, there was one experience we had with the owner of the restaurant that really was amazing. We aren't big fish fans in my family, though, so the cod was more of an experiment, and we didn't eat all of it or ask for a box. Nothing really wrong with it, just not our thing. The owner came by at the end of our meal and asked how everything was, and when we got to the fish, my mother said that it was too salty for us. TOTALLY UNNECESSARILY, the owner apologized PROFUSELY... and gave us a discount for our meal. In a Chinese restaurant, this kind of fantastic customer service? Unheard of. We didn't need a refund or want one, but his willingness to try and make things right and make sure we were 110% satisfied really left an impression on my whole family. This is a restaurant that cares about your dining experience and takes pride in their food. Definitely will be back!

I will definitely be coming back to this place. The setting is very intimate and relaxing. Perfect lighting, simple yet stylish interior, friendly staff. This place made a great first impression on me. The pork wontons were amazing but my mongolian beef was severly lacking. Very tender but no flavor. This is not what mongolian beef should taste like. So why 4 stars? My 2 friends each had something different and were both very pleased, service was awesome, setting was intimate, and the pork wontons left me speechless. I am definitely giving this place another shot.

When we walked in, the place looked impressive. The décor is really nice and we were seated right away. The menu is a bit confusing as another person here mentioned. Basic description is a lot easier to read than a fancy description. The food here is delicious. We got the pot stickers appetizer, seafood clay pot and teriyaki chicken. They give you the choice of white or brown rice. The drawbacks: #1 was the waitress. She was terrible. It is the very tall clumsy woman with lackluster effort. She didn't make much effort to smile, seemed vaguely uninterested, inexperienced and inattentive. She just went through the basic motions, brought our check and plopped it on the table without asking if we needed anything else. Then, she DID NOT bother to come back! Hello, we need to pay our bill??! There were not that many people there so why did she disappear on the other side of the restaurant? It is the lunch hour so many people who visit do work in Bishop ranch area and need to go back to work. We were being patient but I almost got up to find someone. Thankfully, another nice waitress came over sensing our effort to look for our waitress and asked if we needed anything and if she can take the bill. Another tip is to provide chop sticks and especially knives. The potstickers were jumbo sized and you cannot just bite into them without making a mess.

This restaurant occupies the space once held by Cafe Esin, so this location must have good karma. What a treat! My wife and I indulged so we could bring some food home for our son, and we had three appetizers and three main courses, most from the recommendation of our server. Here's what I remember: Appetizers included crispy little pancakes and an eggplant dish: both got an A+. Main courses included dandan noodles (unusual, heavy-ish peanut sauce but strangely addicting), prawns and honey walnuts (a nice variation on the same old thing), and clay pot chicken (remind them to remove the late-add cilantro if you don't like it). A-plus all around for great authentic flavors, a delightful server who appeared to be just a bit overworked but who never lost her smile, and everything arriving on time as the restaurant filled up as we were eating. All in all, a great dining experience.

Wow, really delicious Chinese food that is healthy, fresh, with unique and subtle flavors that still tastes like Chinese food. Service is very friendly. I really liked everything I ordered here and will make a point to eat here whenever I'm in the neighborhood. I'd say it's worth the drive. Yummy!

Amazing restaurant, believe it when it came from a Chinese! Real authentic Chinese food, we had the fish soup, spicy beef and lotus root. I burned my lips because it was SO GOOD and i ate too fast. I am surprised to have this quality of Chinese food in east bay, usually you only find this type of real taste in south bay with more Chinese populated community. Like someone wrote: one meal n you will be hooked, i am hooked alright. Me and my friends decided to try every item on the menu, that's how committed we are.

Thumbs up: Nice atmosphere, friendly/helpful staff, nice selection of loose leaf green tea, pot stickers, chicken clay pot, seafood clay pot, vegetable chow mein Thumbs down: eggplant was very salty, they need to screen the service area in the front room because it appears messy

Pos: + Very hip, trendy, contemp interior design. +Wait staff is quite attentive. + Food menu is extensive. We went out as workers group and order multiple plates: love their eggplants, and noodles. + Noise level is very good: we dont have to yell across the table. Neg: -Hard to find this place so better to pay attention since it is a bit hidden inside. Not sure their street sign for the plaza is that much help in term of visibility. -Can be a bit pricey but I think it is reasonable. Overall, our co-workers and I went here like twice in a month for its ambiance and taste. I would love to come back here to try more different dishes. Great for that special dates too. Highly recommend this place !

Prices are higher than I like to pay... but I have eaten here about 3 times. Pot stickers are good. Chow fun is good. Walnut prawns with honeydew is good. I am not sure I would eat here that often, unless I had some kind of coupon.

I had a Groupon burning a hole in my pocket. Devastated by allergies, this Friday was a perfect time to use it! Staff was very helpful and friendly. We went early and were the first ones seated for dinner. Decor is cute-a little more modern and upscale than your traditional restaurant. I was a bit disappointed in the food. To be honest, I expected better since they bill themselves as an organic restaurant. To begin with we were offered two menus, they other one was supposed to be more authentic, however, I was confused by the fact that some items appeared on both menus. We ordered the Green Onion Pancake appetizer that came with a dip that was described as a peanut sauce. I tasted no peanuts--it was more of a spicy aioli. A little off for my taste. We ordered Beef Fried Rice, Orange Chicken and Spicy Eggplant. Call me crazy, but I didn't expect everything to be this greasy. Also the eggplant was presented and was over cooked (the dish was entirely brown with no color in it--can I have some red bell pepper or some scallions?!) My companion was completely happy with her meal but I don't think I will be back here. Maybe if they have some more healthy options to compliment the organic bill.

This is the Chinese Restaurant I've been longing for. I've been to places all over the county looking for some good, tasty chinese food, and have been very unimpressed with what I'd found--until I was taken to YiPing by a friend. Some folks are really excited about the "Organic" nature of the menu---for me, that usually is code for "Bad food", but YiPing has changed my mind forever. Just thinking about their Mongolian Beef makes my mouth water---it is, BY FAR, the most flavorful Mongolian Beef I've ever tasted. Highly Recommended.

Yes! Amazing Szechuan without needing to drive to Pleasant Hill! And, it's hard to describe well, but the food just tastes so "fresh". Not that rubbery, wilted, bland experience you find in most of the E Bay places attempting Chinese, much less Szechuan. Absolutely stoked to have discovered this place with the help of Yelp.

This place is a Gem! I am not really a Chinese food fan but there is a reason for that. Seems like every time I eat Chinese I get sick! I am not sure if it is the oil that just doesn't work with my body or what. I didn't get sick after eating at YiPing! The food was fantastic and the owner Alan is a superstar. He is always running around to make sure everything is going well for the guests. It is hard for me to put my finger on it but something is just different than other Chinese food places. If you are in the neighborhood, drop in and check them out. You'll know what I mean.

If you sign up for their newsletter online they will send you a $20 coupon off of a $40 purchase. No gimmicks. Since this place is fairly new you can tell they are focusing on customer service. Check out Yiping Restaurant if you are ever in the San Ramon area. I really like their lunch menu. I call this place "the upscale Chinese restaurant". Food is good and the service is great. The owner, Allen, is always very professional and accommodating! =) I like to take my clients here when I treat them out for a meal. =) The ambiance is also great....makes for a good impression for my clients. And my clients have confirmed that they do like this place and they also like the food. If you want fresh yummy ingredients....check out Yiping Chinese Restaurant! =)

Great food, great service, and they prepare delicious gluten-free options. Have not had Chinese food in a very long time do to not being able to find an organic, locally farmed produce, gluten-free option establishment almost anywhere. Finding this place was a dream come true. I have already eaten there several times and the consistency does not cease to surprise me. If you don't live in the area believe me, it is worth driving to this place, which is a lot to say for a Chinese restaurant in North Cal. Try their orange chicken; incredible.

Met up with fellow Yelpers for a little get together. YiPing is located next to a Billiards place and a japanese restaurant. It's been a while since I've been in this plaza as I don't work in San Ramon or eat out often in this area. The service was quite attentive and very nice. They took our order of Beef Stew and Seafood Claypot. The pricing of course is super inflated as it is San Ramon. I think I would've been able to get the same dishes elsewhere for maybe $2-3 cheaper. It did come with a hot sour soup which was pretty good for being free. The food came out fairly quickly. The Beef Stew was hearty and the meat reminded me of some filipino dishes. The noodles were pretty "qq." The seafood claypot had a lot of really big chunks of seafood (well except the scallops which were kind of tiny). It had a lot of flavor but way too much salt for me. I kind of downed 3 glasses of waters while I was there and felt really parched still when I left. The lighting in the place was really really dark. I wish they had more windows in there or just more light in general. Overall, if I were to compare this place with all other Chinese places, I'd give it a 2. But I'm feeling fairly generous today and comparing with what's in the area and I think it's definitely better in quality than Chef Yu. Maybe next time, I'll try their dim sum.

If you're going to advertise on your menu that your potstickers are "home made," you really shouldn't have your cook walk through the front of the house with a bag of frozen store-bought potstickers that are not organic as advertised on your website. We should have left then but we were super hungry. The combination chow mein had all of three shrimp. The orange chicken tasted like the sauce came straight from a bottle. And of course I should have known not to order teriyaki chicken at a Chinese place but I thought my toddler would like it. Chicken was tough, fatty, and the sauce was bad.

I really like this restaurant - honestly, the food is good here! This place is nearby and I love Chinese food. I am a Sacramentan, and my favorite Chinese place in Sacramento is Jade Fountain. So I am looking for a place that hits the spot just like Jade Fountain! So I am hoping this place would. So I order the green beans, braised beef and tofu clay pot, cod filets in spicy sauce for take-out. I went on the website and realized they had this promotion/rewards program. When I get there, the wait staff barely knows any English. He knows what I am referring to when I point to the menu. We ask about the rewards program online, he's so confused. Eventually, a lady (owner) comes out and she's very nice, and explains to us that there's new ownership (her), and she doesn't have access to the website and all those things. So we're a little disappointed but we want to try the food, so we will wait! The food comes out, and she decided to give us orange beef on the house. I was excited about that. So when I come home, I am a little disappointed the portions are smaller than what I am used to. However, the food is good! Pricey though -- however, bay area chinese food is always pricey. I am used to cheaper prices. The green beans is delicious. The cod is good. The braised beef and tofu is a little too salty, it won't be as good as Jade Fountain's tofu/beef clay pot. That dish is awesome. The orange beef was surprisingly tasty too. I definitely plan on coming back here. I knocked off a start for the prices. Honestly, $10 for green beans? That's a little pricey but, I guess that's the norm in this area. I didn't eat in but I imagine the service would be good here - everyone seems nice and friendly!

The service and food is 5-stars: I've been here several times for lunch and the quality has always been outstanding. My go-to orders are the broccoli beef, spicy cod, and the seafood clay pot: the seafood is fresh: shrimp, fish, scallops - yummy! The sauce is not too salty or spicy, it goes well with the seafood and veggies. Extra plus because they don't charge extra for brown rice.

We picked YiPing for our Sunday family dinner. It was also my birthday. We started early, so the restaurant wasn't busy at all. We took our time to pick what we wanted from their one-page menu. I found the place a little dark for a Chinese restaurant. But I think the place was going for a more quiet setting with their ambient light. It took a while to decide on what to order. We wanted to try as many dishes, but didn't want to end up with too much leftover. We also had to make sure that we ordered some non-spicy dishes for the kids. We finally settled on 5 dishes with the help of our most patient server. First we got the house made Pork Pot Stickers. These were pan fried dumplings with pork fillings. On its own, the filling tasted a bit bland. But the sweet and spicy sauce complimented the dish quite well. It enhanced the subtle flavor of the pork pot stickers. The second dish was the Spicy Cod in claypot. True to the menu's description. It was slices of cod and cabbages in a spicy soup base with generous portions of chili. The first bite is always the best! It's when the burst of flavor and spices explodes in your mouth. Eventually, your tongue gets numb, so the subsequent bites may not be as satisfying as the first. The third dish was Combo Chow Mein. This Was the perfect noodle dish for kids. It was thick noodles with a combination of beef, chicken, shrimp, and veggies. The shrimp was juicy, the meat were tender, and the noodle was al dente. It was mildly salted and balanced all the flavors in the dish. The fourth dish was the Braised Pork Belly. It was a blend of salty, sweet taste coupled with the star of anise fragrance. Juicy chunks of pork belly rested on a bed of baby bok choy and glazed with the brown thick sauce of the braised meat. Yummy! They were all very good. And so, I cannot do justice to the last dish: Chicken Clay Pot. Which was supposedly a favorite by loyal patrons. I can say that the dish was tasty and that the thinly-sliced meat was perfect for the blanched vegetables that came in the sizzling hot pot. We loved every dish and we're glad that this place is so close by and is reasonably-priced.

Best Chinese food (hands down) in our area. Otherwise, we have to go to Pleasant Hill where there are a couple of real gems. Usually, we aren't up for Chinese when eating out (except dim sum of course). Most Chinese places are much too Americanized for our taste. I can make better at home. This is not the case for Yiping, which has a truly authentic Sichuan inspired menu. The Sichuan dishes here are boldly flavored, fresh and unique. We tried the garlic pea shoots, the Sichuan eggplant, and the sesame pancake with beef appetizer (crispy sesame pancake with scallions, beef and plum sauce). Kids had their usual fried rice (good but not a standout). Everything was amazing. My husband requested they add fried tofu to the eggplant dish, which they were glad to do. The tofu was perfectly prepared and the sauce on the eggplant very well balanced, unlike the sickly sweet sauces we've had at a couple of local Chinese places. The pea shoots were also delicious. The sesame pancake appetizer was extremely good. I highly recommend that if you want to try something different. It is a bit rich, but eating one or two (or three) pieces isn't going to kill you. I will warn you that both dishes (pea shoots and eggplant) were incredibly garlicky. This made them delicious, but if you are at all sensitive to garlic (I am a bit), you are going to feel it later. And you will be sweating it out of your pores the next day. Service was excellent. We had a whiny two year old and they were very gracious about it. Plus, as I mentioned above, they were accommodating about changes to the food. Prices are a little on the high side, but the restaurant is a nice sit down and the food is high quality.

Let me start out by saying that I never go out for Chinese food. My parents always made the exact kind of Chinese food I liked! Chinese food around the Bay Area tends to be too sweet and Americanized for me, but YiPing was a nice surprise! Ironically enough, I came here with my parents and enjoyed most of the dishes here and would definitely come back for more. I ordered the pig intestines, lotus root, mapo tofu, and sautéed pea shoots. My only suggestion would be to have an actual wine and beer list. The restaurant should definitely utilize their bar space and have a comprehensive list of available beverages. Pouring drinks is easy money!

I just realized I never reviewed YiPing and I love it so much! We come here weekly. Their food is so fresh and healthy tasting, not like most Chinese places with a lot of greasy, generic menu items. We love the clay pot chicken ( and it is a lot of food), the deep fried cod fillets and the braised cod soup. Oh and I could eat the green beans everyday. The eggplant appetizer is also delicious but I must say I think the potsticker recipe may have changed because they are no longer good to me. But I still love YiPing and will continue to come here weekly even without potstickers.

High quality Chinese food! Yes it may not be as authentic as something in Chinatown but if you're looking for delicious food, great service, at a place that's clean, give YiPing a try. We ordered the following: Ma po tofu - huge portion and spicy. A little too much "all spice" flavoring Seafood clay pot - generous amount of seafood and delicious gravy Chicken chow fun - It came out freshly cooked and hot. Great flavor and again, generous on the portions Wonton soup - great tasting broth with lots of flavor. The wontons stuffed with perfectly seasoned meat. The restaurant can be hard to find. It's to the left of the billiards place. Unfortunately, it's easy to go to the wrong "plaza" since they all look alike and the parking lots are all connected. I can't wait to go back and try their other dishes...

The food varies in quality the 3 times I've been there. Kind of like mood swings. And every time the attention was horrible. I don't ever want to go there again.

I really don't like this restaurant. I was there on a Sunday night and it took an hour before we could place our main course order. There were only two other couples there yet there were tables that sat uncleared for the entire time I was there. Plus they insisted on playing dance music with a DJ. Oh yeah, the decor is cheap and cheesy. Awful

The food was ok but the attitude of the server wss bad. When one of the dishes didn't come with items and when we asked about it the reply was "I only have two hands...it is coming" . We are not going back.

We love this place. I have Celiac disease and they are very allergy friendly. The food is amazing and the chow fun is my favorite. My only complaint is they never have gluten free soy sauce. I mean, just pick up a bottle already....how hard is that? Other than that....best Asian food around!!!

Horrendous service. Don't know what was up, short on plates, food, courtesy, staff. Sorry I wouldn't bother giving this place a second chance. The menu has long, confusing descriptions. Food tasted ok. I would complain less if it hadn't taken so long. I had the braised cod saturated in chili oil. Too spicy for me, my fault for ordering without asking about it. I asked for brown rice and they brought out white rice and merely said they didn't have any more brown - then proceeded to give the other table brown rice. Wtf. The beef noodle soup had good noodles and broth but the fattiest unedible pieces of meat we had ever seen. Green onion pancake was doughy.

Very good food. I have been here now almost 5-6 times and all the times the food quality has been very good. My favorite is the chicken or seafood claypot. I would have given 5 starts if the service was better!

At first I didn't know if this place was called Iping or Yiping. The sign is hard to read for little dyslexic girls like me. I was in a small corner booth area. It was very quiet but when I went in it was their 2nd week of being open so I don't think the traffic was coming in yet. I went with the Terriaki Chicken lunch. It came with Hot & Sour soup which I do not like. I ate the fresh Mushrooms off the top. The bit of soup I tried was also waaaay to spicy. They also gave me a free sample of the Pot Stickers. I will say the best Pot Stickers Ive ever had. The only thing that had the best flavor that was also noticeable was the freshness of the ingredients. So between the soup and Pot Stickers the service was extremely slooooooooow. I could have written the next Oprah Book Club novel in the amount of time it took to get the main course. Service was nice but I felt so alone and forgotten sitting there. Besides the looooong wait, the Terriaki Chicken was bland. The sauce was bland. Though there was plenty of it, it was bland. The Asparagus spears were very fresh and crisp. The freshness was very apparent but fresh doesn't need to be bland, or slow. Quite honestly it was expensive. I don't mind spending a few for very fresh but I want some flavor. Yiping, Iping, Yelping what do you want from me?

I would rate them a 4.5 star - only due to service. While the service is fast, they are short with you. They drop the food off and just run away. The food deserves a 5 star. This was my first visit here and first time eating here and was pleasantly surprised. The pot stickers are a favorite for an appetizer. I would recommend ordering off the szechuan menu. Since its local ill update more as I visit more!

Orange chicken all pepper and grease. The calamari must have been caught in the early 90's and sat frozen since. Inedible. Spend a few dollars more...go to Uncle Yu's.

Eco-friendly and Organic? Yippee for YiPing! I love Chinese cuisine but choosing to eat organic has eliminated so many of my choices. The owner, not only uses the best ingredients he does it with art. The food looks beautiful and tastes delicious. The environment is tranquil, simple, and tastefully decorated. The service is personal with smiling faces that know the menu well. This is one of my Fav Chinese restaurants. Oh and not to mention the price is just right. Great for the entire family or a romantic night out.

We ordered a ton of goodies there last Sunday. The soups are very good and the meals are very well prepared. We really enjoyed the Mongolian beef and the bok choy with tofo.

Their food is definitely tasty, but BOO on them to state that they deliver, but they don't. I was craving their fabulous cod dish, and thought, how delicious would that taste while the Giants are victorious over the Kansas City Royals in the World Series? I started drinking hours ago, so pick up was not an option. Their Yelp page states that they deliver, so I assumed I was good to go for yummy cod. But nope. No delivery today. Went to Uncle Yu's instead and had a decent meal instead.

Straggling the fine line between fancy and standard Chinese cuisine, YiPing gets high marks for an attempt at interior decor, but ultimately requires some work on the menu and service department to keep our lunch crew coming back for more. Dishes in particular seem to be all over the place. You order grilled beef only to find it bit too salty, the spicy dishes to simply be a pile of jalapenos, and Mongolian beef to be a bit too sweet. Their fried eggplant tastes more like a donut with tons of garlic sauce. Moreover, they refuse to split more than 4 credit cards, creating the typical chaos at the end of the meal when you have more than 4 friends dining. We'll likely be back again if Chinese is on the list, but will keep expectations low in case of something more spectacular in the works.

Our pregnant waitress was totally cute! A bit slow, but I can forgive that, for goodness sake, get that lady off her feet! The food was really hit or miss. LOVED the eggplant appetizer, absolutely delicious. The spicy cauliflower was awesome! The famous smoked pork belly was BLECH. Way too salty, it was inedible. And it isn't chunks of pork belly, but rather like bacon, so it just looks and feels like undercooked pieces of bacon. I was going to fry it up at home and get it crispy, but then I lost interest in it and threw it away. It was truly awful. The portions are large, the ingredients are super fresh. I'd go back and try it again, but skip that awful salty limp pork belly. Yuk.

After trying this place last week and having a 5 star experience, we went back yesterday and it was awful. We ordered some of the same items as last week and they were completely different. -The Ma Po Tofu (great last week) was swimming in oil this time around. It was really bad -The Dan Dan Noodles were not good The food was so bad this time and so inconsistent over last week that it was enough to make me not want to go back (not sure my stomach could handle it again).

Wow if you like Chinese food then this place will definitely be one of the best restaurants you have ever dined at. The quality of the meats and vegetables are not only fresh, local but organic as well! The staff is friendly and fast and the food is always delicious and comes out piping hot. This has been my husband and I's favorite spot for Chinese ever since we first tryed them over two years ago! Figured it was time to write a nice review they deserve it. Thanks Yiping for being so wonderful.

I was at this restaurant on wednesday with my family that was here from out of town. There were about 8 adults and 2 small children (4 years old and 3 years old). We were having a nice dinner until we saw a spider on the wall. I'm not talking about a daddy long leg or a small spider, it was a substantial spider with a white back. My baby cousin, the 3 year old little girl, was frightened and started crying in the restaurant. Her mom was able to calm her down, only to find that a few minutes later there was a pincher bug in her high chair which caused her to freak out again and start crying. As we were trying to calm her down, the supervisor (unfortunately didn't get her name) told us that we had to take my baby cousin outside. It was less than 40 degrees outside and this woman wanted us to take a 3 year old little girl out there because she was scared of bugs that were in their restaurant. My Aunt expressed how upsetting the supervisor's comment was and the supervisor did not want to give us the name or phone number of the Manager or the Owner and refused to apologize. The only reason my baby cousin was crying was because of the BUGS that were in their restaurant. After the whole ordeal, our waitress, who was extremely nice, gave us a discount on our tab for the "inconvenience" and the supervisor disappeared and was no where to be found. Needless to say, this place isn't the best to bring children or people that are scared of bugs.

I HATE CHINESE FOOD!!! But OMG!!!! This is place is BOMB. My friend and I just ate here for the second time this week. Yiping truly is a hidden gem. You have to know its there in order to go there. Trust me this is a place you definitely want to check out. Why you ask? It's FRESH! It's sooooo good and it's reasonably priced. Food and service get an A+

Good solid Szechuan food. The decor is nice, though the location tucked in next to a pool hall could be better. The menu is a little limited, but what is there is good. I was a bit worried when I walked in at 6 pm and the place was mostly empty and the wait staff was all non-Chinese, but the place filled up before we left, and we all had a good meal.

Killer lunch specials & my new go-to spot for my weekday telecommutes. I love Sichuan/Szechuan (especially spots I frequent working in the South Bay) & it's great to have a decent spot close to home. I'm currently checking off the list of items from the 'Authentic Sichuan Cuisine' menu but recently found an item off the standard menu (Cod Fillets Marinated with Spicy Sweet Ginger Sauce, Deep Fried, then Stir Fried with Dried Red Chili Pepper) which is insanely good. Portion sizes are decent & lunch specials come with Hot & Sour Soup, even to-go. Great thing about the lunch special is that for $2 more, you can add a starter, i.e. (6 pork wontons, 4 homemade pot stickers, etc...) as well. Reasonable pricing, friendly service & Authentic Sichuan in San Ramon... Quite pleased...

It saddens me to have to downgrade yi ping from a 5... it had been one of my favorite places to go and I had been raving about the restaurant to all my family and friends and I finally bring family here today but today was a bit of a disappointment. First thing is - how can the restaurant be down to just 1 of the staple Chinese menus??? The Chinese menu was the one with all the good foods. I guess it was ok to share, but really- a torn up menu? Then - the server didn't bring enough water to the table. We had to tell him that we were short a glass. It would be totally understandable if the place was busy, but there was only 1 other table.... Once we started getting our food, we were delighted when we got the yummy pig ears and beef shanks. That was still good. The disappointment was the pancakes. It was poorly put together. The pancake itself was bland with very little plum sauce and very little meat. It was one of my favorite and normally we wouldn't have any leftovers but we had plenty today as it was just not the way it's suppose to be. But all the other foods is still good. Service could be better and that's why it's going from a 5 to 3 stars

Yiping does a great job in many aspects. The decor is refined, as well as the food. It's interesting how they take many Americanized Chinese dishes, and make them so beautiful looking! The pot stickers are large, and the chow mein isn't stuffed with onions. They also have many other traditional Chinese dishes for those who are Chinese and Chinese Americans, and they satisfy well. I love their Chong Yo Bing in particular! Prices are decent. Servers are actually all caucasian, but they're learning Chinese (as they told me). Only issue I have is that when my friends and I go on Sundays, the service is extremely slow. The staff has told me it is because the owner never thinks to staff on Fridays. Well, I hope he starts to soon! For Sundays after church are an excellent time to gain business! Cheers for yiping!

We found this place on Yelp and stopped in for lunch. We were surprised to see that the place seemed to be run by a number of young kids...but the service was quick and attentive. The lunch menu was full of choices and you can add an appetizer for a mere $2. I had the seafood claypot and we got the wontons as our appetizer--they were yummy! The only miss were Ja Jjang noodles. The sauce was overly greasy and lacked flavor. I'd go back again to try some more dishes next time I am in town.

YiPing has excellent food that's fresh and unique. Many of the dishes here are ones that are made like no other place I've been to. The ingredients are fresh and always tasty. Unfortunately, the service is a sometimes disappointing and you end up waiting a while for the food (which is surprising, because Chinese food is usually fast to arrive in my experience.) Still, this is a great restaurant with great food and I highly recommend you try them. Make sure you try the shredded beef with peppercorn power (which is nice and hot) and their home-made potstickers are HUGE and delicious!

I always really enjoy coming here. The food is fresh and delicious and the service is very professional. The hot and sour soup is the best I've ever had. The garlic pea shoots are delicious as well. Also, I never feel rushed to leave like some other places.

The moment I walked in this place, the waiter greeted me with sincere kindness. We had a quick convo and I ordered some food to go. The prices were very reasonable and the service was even more reasonable. I ordered the spring rolls and jalapeño beef. Both dishes were excellent. The beef had fresh jalapeños, so my mouth was on fire. Bit it was do worth it, the beef was fried and tasty. I'll definitely be back and in gonna bring some friends along next time. This is a new hidden gem for me.

phenomenal & fresh fresh fresh!! I am not a big fan of Chinese food at all, but ever since I ate here i have literally not stopped thinking about going back and I long for the day that I do. I started with the scallion pancakes and they put any other ones I've ever had to shame, there would be no point for me to order them anywhere else ever again. they came with a spicy dipping sauce and it was amazing, I ate the whole appetizer to myself, except my friend tried one and she loved it too. super fresh! I ordered veggie chow mein as my entree, my typical order when eating Chinese food, I am very very selective about where I will eat meat from. The chow mein was really good, not out of this world like the scallion pancakes, but nonetheless really good. My friend ordered the chicken clay pot and it looked so tasty that I went against my normal instincts and tried it. I am so glad that I did because it was absolutely amazing and I kept going back for more. I definitely recommend this place, even if you don't live close it is totally worth the drive. I came from 30 minutes away and I plan to return ASAP.

OK. I can't even rate this restaurant on its food because I didn't get to taste any. But i feel the need to at least review my 'experience' at this restaurant. We were in town for the evening and in the mood for Chinese. Checked Yelp and YiPing came up with four stars and it was open until 9:30 so we decided to give it a try. We got there at 8:30 only to be greeted at the entrance by a 'caution wet floor' sign. We stepped past it to see the entire restaurant ready and waiting to close. The majority of the tables had upturned chairs on them and it smelled strongly of cleanser. Not very appetizing to say the least. The hostess tried to offer us one of the three tables still set for diners but the smell of cleaner was so strong we opted not to stay. We left and had a fabulous meal at the Japanese restaurant next door instead (see my review of Miraku). As we left Miraku at 9:30ish we glanced over at YiPing, still with its doors open. Still very much empty. Either the owner doesn't know their staff is closing up an hour before closing, or they just don't care. I don't see this place lasting very long with this type if business practice.

Tried it during the Taste of Tri Valley. Pleasantly surprised because my experience at the other spots in the neighborhood were average at best. Hip, modern and personable service. Not a delivery or take out place at all. Decor isn't cheesy so take a seat and enjoy your meal at the restaurant. Though it may be popular for the tri valley hipsters, believe that the food is solid.

I have been to this restaurant several times and I have to say it's been great each time ... Until I take a risk and place a pick-up order. If you have a distaste for the texture of certain foods, or perhaps an allergy, check your to-go orders. (See my pic of mushrooms as an example). In regards to the quality of the food, it's still great but their attention to detail and exceptions to the menu is what's questionable.

The BEST Chinese restaurant in tri valley. If you like authentic chine food, don't look any further. My wife and my daughter have tried pretty much their entire menu and everything is outstanding. I strongly recommend Yiping to all Chine food lovers.

Food was very bland. Hot and sour soup had no variety- just a bowl of starch and tofu. - not even a bit of green onion or pepper of something to make it less bland. Chicken with Crispy Orange Zest Sauce dish was just deep fried chicken with a sweet sauce(too sweet) and rice- no vegetables. If you can't beat Panda express(bottom baseline on Chinese food) on plate appeal and taste you have a problem. Service was poor - infrequent, did not engage. They were nice when I called them over. Recommendations: 1)Add some vegetables/color and spice (deep fried and sweet sauce is not enough) 2)make sure the staff engages the customers

This place is solid! Solid fresh ingredients. I was skeptical at first, when a non-asian friend raving this place to me. And she wanted to take me here, I was secretly praying it will not be like PF Changs. And thank goddess it was not. It was clean, delicious Chinese cuisine, cooking with the freshest ingredients that I've had from a Chinese restaurant in a long time. I bet the health score is high too. Pros: 1) some of the nicest servers. they sure know their wine list! When I was done with our soup in the beginning of our meal, they offered to take it away & pack it for me in the back, so we have more room on the table for rest of the arriving dishes. 2) clean atmosphere. Not the, "only hole-in-a-wall places are good" 3) large back area for banquet. 4) tasty, delicious food. I love their beef scallion cake & fried fish marinated in ginger sauce & peppercorn. 5) easy parking, in a nice plaza by Crow Canyon. Glad to know there is a decent chinese resturant in the tri-valley area. I shall come here on a weekly basis. Cons: charge $1 per cup for hot tea.

You know, this place is ... 'not bad'. It's not the most authentic place, and the food is always a bit spicy, but it's not bad! Nice and clean, too. I work nearby, so I go here for lunch from time-to-time. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat Chinese food here, unfortunately. But it's good enough for a lunch spot. My stars are for the great service we always get here during lunch time, the location, and atmosphere. The food is 'good enough' to satisfy a lunchtime craving.

It was my one of the best Chinese restaurant experiences. Nice staff, great atmosphere, fantastic food and easy parking! The owner came to the table and suggested the dishes we should try, since it was our first time in this restaurant. We had: 1. Crispy Scallion Pancake as a starter ($4) - very yummy! 2. Long Marinated Teriyaki Chicken with Asparagus (for my 11 y.o. son) ($12) - chicken is cooked to perfection; I am not an asparagus fan, but this one made me love it. 3. Seafood Clay Pot ($14) - great seafood in one tasty clay pot 4. Stir Fried Cumin Lamb ($14) - it was delicious but you have to love cumin. I would go there again in a heart beat!

If not for Yelp, I never would have found out about Yiping. And that's a sad, sad thing. It's a hidden gem in San Ramon! Literally, hidden. I hope that they are able to stay in business in spite of being tucked into a nondescript corner of a nondescript plaza, because they are the first restaurant I have ever been to in this area that uses the amazing SICHUAN FLOWER PEPPER!!!1! We weren't tremendously hungry, and there were only two of us, but we ordered the following and had plenty leftover to take home: - Potstickers - Dan dan mein - Crispy shredded beef - Chicken breast in clay pot Potstickers. OK wow, I think that these were the best potstickers that I have ever eaten. Huge, fluffy dough pillows filled with ground pork. I'm not usually a major potsticker fan but these were sublime. Dan dan mein. Pretty good; not as good as Jing Jing in Palo Alto but definitely better than a lot that I've had. Lots of ground pork in the sauce. Crispy shredded beef. Om nom nom, this was the dish with the Sichuan peppercorns. Quite tasty (even more tasty the next day). The beef was crispy, not greasy or tough. I liked the assortment of veggies and peppers (celery, bell peppers, jalapenos). Chicken breast in clay pot. Very temperature-hot (owing to the clay pot, which apparently imparts magma-esque qualities to anything placed within). The zucchini was delicious. A totally solid dish but I'm not sure that I would put it on my "must order" list. I will definitely be back here and am looking forward to working my way through their menu. They've got additional authentic Sichuan menu items and I'm thinking that hitting their lunch menu is going to be a good way to sample the deliciousness... :-)

I absolutely love this spot. My colleagues took me here for lunch and we had a spicy fish soup and some potstickers. All yummy! They give generous portions but also the food to me is a lot more authentic. Many times when I go to Asian restaurants they attempt to cater to the American palette by putting sugar or to much sugar (at least for me) in everything. I do not live in San Ramoan nor is this a fancy spot. But I would commute over the hill just to satisfy my Szechwan craving. I will be frequenting soon and often....... (P.S. I typically do not give 5 stars not unless Service, Food and Ambiance are to die for in regards to dining. This place is clean and nice but nothing fancy. So even though it lacked in ambiance I still had to give it a 5 star.)

Too bad! The food is excellent. The service is rock bottom!!! I have eaten there several times and love the food, BUT... I will likely never go back. Today I went with 2 friends. The first got his lunch in a reasonable ammount of time (10-15 minutes after ordering). The second got hers about 15 minutes later. After over an hour in the restaurant, they brought my food without any expalnation and when I said "You might as well make it to go at this point.", I got a snarky and insincere, "well, sorry." Excuse me! I didn't even ask them to comp it and I REALLY should have. If you like to be treated like dirt and wait an eternity for your food... go ahead and try it.

Yiping's food used to be very very good and we all enjoy going there. However, the quality dropped dramatically in the recently. We were disappointed several times already. We went there today (Friday) and another disappointment! Ordered 4 dishes, all VERY VERY sweet and they are not even spicy! According to the waitress, they added a new chef. The boss used to ask us if the dishes tasted good, now he is busy with other location and hardly there. The food quality now and then is like night and day. Tonight we did not even see other Asian faces and the restaurant is merely half full, that must tell you something. Personally, I will not go there again and would advise all my friends as such.

Friendly service, decent food, but don't expect authentic. They actually have two menus, one more authentic than the other, but still developed for the Caucasian palette. For example, their potstickers come with a southwest dipping sauce. Weird! I'd say it's better than Panda Express, if you're a beginner with Chinese food. Again, great service though.

Yiping came across as a new biz on yelp a while ago. couldn't find them the the regular way but came across them looking for home depot (haven't found home depot yet) after eating here, guessing one may enjoy yiping if one enjoys panda express or pf chang but i haven't been to these places yet, so .just saying.... pop in and found they had lunch specials on saturday, cool! decor is beige and grey walls with bamboo baskets and tops posted on the walls. checked the menu and yep, they don't serve dim sum. lliterally, the baskets are hung out to dry. eats: lunch comes with hot & sour soup, and an entree. tea, "starters", and 'veggie entree" are extra $$. -(entree)"stir fried prawns, fish & scallop with mushroom and fried tofu in sizzling clay pot" *true, everything was stir fried in a wok and placed in a sizzling clay pot, the food wasn't cooked in it. plus, guessing only the green beans, and mushrooms sourced from farmers' market, not the shrimp, basa, scallop, squid -"hot & sour soup", mostly sour taste(vinegar), not "hot" taste.white/black pepper -"starter" , 6 pork wontons (2) in "spicy sauce" -sichuan garlic nor spicy at all, pork filling bland, had gristle, no shrimp as traditional chinese fare has. foodnotes: -aftertaste afterwards. no doubt msg used, of chicken broth/granules/base variety. -no chopsticks provided, obviously not a typical chinese restaurant. -ate with large soupspoon, northern chinese, "shandong style" -"authentic sichuan menu available". wonder what menu i got? -blandness and heavy msg use, less quality food than traditional chinese food at a higher price = 2.5 stars. if you like panda, probably 4 stars.... -food has too much sugar added. chinese food doesn't taste like this. -great helpful, informative service, food not so.

food was very good, service too. we had Mongolian beef, Walnut shrimp, hot and sour soup and onion cakes. all of it delicious, not your run of the mill Chinese for sure.

Very good chinese food that does not succumb to the typical shortcomings of being a Chinese restaurant in America. The food is delicious, not too greasy, and the ingredients appear to be of pretty high quality. The menu consists of what I perceive as more traditional Chinese cuisine so not everything is not Kung Pao'd or made by General Tso which I appreciate greatly in a Chinese restaurant.

Recently we have been back with a group of nine and also a small group of family members. Diets from across the board, gluten free and vegans low sugar. Christina our waitress in so lovely and we make her alittle nutty while orderinng but she also gets the order correct. The food is delicious and we like trying al the new flavors offered. These dishes are authentic chinese so if you are not used to spice tell them. This is a scheuwem restaurant. They make everyything from scratch so you can get it your way.I saw someones review of the braised cod. Its the spicest dish on the menu..really ask your waitress. So if you don't like spice don't order it. We have ordered it twice and the flavor is very good but it's hot. Also they have jasmine rice and brown rice. We really like this place and its one of my favorite now. They are opening a sister place soon in Pleasanton too.

I eat here often, it's close to my job and the food is fresh and very good. The potstickers are amazing. My only complaint is, I order a la carte potstickers and a side of rice ALL the time and the ther day when I tried to order it the girl on the phone told me I couldn't order them that way, I had to order them with a meal or order a full order of the for like $10. I told her, that's funny, I have ordered them like this like 5 times already. She said, the manager isn't here right now, I will do it this time but we don't usually do it. Helloooo, your manager even rang up my last order...??? I don't get it, I have to order a FULL order of potstickers or I can't have any? I will try to place this order again, and I'm hoping I'm not told that again because that woud be a turn off since I really like this place...

We had a company lunch and one of the employees suggested this restaurant because of the Yelp reviews. Worst "Chinese Food" ever. The waitress put the menu sheet on top of the plate and you know how many hands handle this sheet. The food taste Indian food more than Chinese cooking. The shredded beef was served with 5 pieces of meat and 15 dried peppers. Don't believe the "awesome" reviews in this restaurant. Check it out first before you go in groups..

I don't know what's up with this place bad service, and now bad food. I've been going here for awhile now. I order everything vegetarian this time I get meat In my food. The people working there really don't care about customer service. Don't try to get your food made any other way then what it says because they won't do it right. Needless to say tonight was my last time ever coming to this place

YiPing is tucked into a corner in a strip mall off San Ramon Valley Blvd. A little hard to find. Once inside, it is a medium sized place with modern, straight line decor. The service is good, and the food is quite good. We found the portions a little larger than most Chinese restaurants, and the prices a little higher. Well worth it. We will be back.

Best lamb I've ever had, even better than lamb I make at home. Get the spiced cumin lamb, you won't be sorry. We also ordered crispy spiced beef (which was pretty tough and dry), a shrimp noodle dish (tasty, well-made), and fried cod fillets (deep fried AND stir-fried, good, didn't taste like fish at all, very moist and tender) But seriously, get the spiced cumin lamb. It really was that good. Very clean, chef clearly knows how to prepare food well, great service - our server, Patrick, was very attentive and knowledgable and gave us a great dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant. And the spiced cumin lamb.

I love this place. By far the best Chinese food I have had in a while. Their cumin lamb is to die for. My wife loves the hot and sour soup here. We usually order the lamb and chow-fun noodles and have enough left to bring home. They use good quality products in their cooking. The staff is very personable and adds to the whole dining experience.

i ordered take out. How could you mess up Chinese food? Doesn't taste like real Chinese food. If you want authentic tasting Chinese food, go to Three brothers from China. If you want a fru-fru place, go here. a little expensive than your regular Chinese restaurant.

This place is going downhill...very disappointed....went there and waited for a table hence there were empty tables available...the waitress was easily distracted by other customers and made another customer waiting for her service too long...order taken too long...even after my order was taken, no water and soup were brought to my table..left waiting and waiting...not even a full house...here came the order...wait! The dish was wrong...I didn't order that...what! I decided to leave after wasting my precious 45 minutes for NOTHING!!! I will never ever go back. I used to be a regular customer there...too bad this place is sinking!!! Another thing that I want to share here...they claim that their ingredients are ORGANIC...how do you know if they are truly organic. Whenever I was there seeing the produce guy delivering veggies...they came from a Chinese wholesaler. They need to be inspected for that.

Two words to describe YiPing: Tastebud Meltdown One meal here and it's a promise...you WILL BE hooked! If you're looking for Chinese food that will NOT leave you hungry after an hour; swollen like a blow-fish; endlessly thirsty; or battling those stomach gurglies, THIS IS the place. I work in Bishop Ranch; received a coupon for $20.00 when YiPing first opened. They moved in where Ha's used to be. We were really bummed that Stanley Ha and (Ha's) disappeared. He had the best Honey Walnut Prawns ever. I let the YiPing coupon expire because the words "Organic" and "Chinese Food" in the same sentence didn't sit well with me. Fast forward a year, and a coworker chose to celebrate her birthday lunch at YiPing. Man! Was I sorry I had let that coupon expire! Organic, I know now, meant Pop-pin' Fresh. Making up for lost time...every time is as delicious as the last. It's exciting (and rewarding) to try new menu items each visit; versus some spots where you stick to what you know. I will not suggest any dish in particular -- it's all incredible. Ambiance, Service, Ladies Room (yes, I judge an establishment by the cleanliness of it; cuz' if they can't keep this room clean, who knows what the Kitchen is about), and Seating all get my stamp of approval. I like the overhead music (volume just right). The Disco Ball Room is my fave!

Worst Chinese food in the Tri-Valley yet. Service was horrible as it was way understaffed for Friday during lunchtime. We were seated in "overflow' area where the waitresses don't even pass through. You have to walk out into the main dining area if you need to flag a waitress down for service. No redeeming qualities whatsoever to this restaurant. It is not authentic Chinese food in the least, no clue why people seem to like this place.

I found YiPing on Yelp and gave it a try. We have dined there 3 times now and the food is awesome. Fresh, consistent, full of flavor and good size portions. The customer service is always good. We just ordered to go this week and was worried yet the food was still consistent, fresh and yummy. I am so happy we found a descent Asian food restaurant in the east bay. Hope more good restaurants open in the East Bay.

Didn't even know this place was here until I was invited for a birthday diner. Me and the wife have been talking about finding a good Chinese place in San Ramon for a while. But since I feel places like oakland SF and other cities dominate chinese food it was great to find this place close to home. Even the kids really like the food also. Inside is great and the staff is friendly. The food however just has a great fresh taste to it and quality. I dont like orange chicken but this place nails it. This is a must place to eat.

Cut to Valentine's Day, 2013. I just left work for the day, and I was dead tired. I was so sick and tired of hearing people talk about Valentine's Day. "Why aren't you wearing red?", they'd say. Honestly, I could have given a...you get the gist. I decided to do something special for myself -- have dinner at a place I've never been. I'd been hearing about this place for a while. "Crap-entine's Day" was a good a day as any. I called in to place a take-out order and was greeted by the friendliest voice I have ever heard take a phone order. "Happy Valentine's Day!" The girl on the other end of the phone said. That "gesture" would not deter me from my task: ordering dinner, picking it up, and getting home as fast as humanly possible in a sports sedan. I ordered the fried stuffed eggplant for the appetizer, and an order of dan dan noodles (with ground pork) and the braised cod fillets in a spicy Sichuan sauce. I'd had the appetizer before at an event in Danville. I loved it so much I wanted to try it again. This time, however, the dish was not as flavorful, and I could swear it was served with a sauce before... Oh well! The braised cod was to die for! It was so spicy I could swear I was hallucinating. The dan dan noodles, a specialty of the restaurant, were well-done. Served in a peanut sauce with bok choy and ground pork, the noodles were a good combination with the fish. Although I am no fan of Valentine's Day, I think I have found a new Valentine -- YiPing restaurant!

Yiping's food - really darn good. Great presentation and some of the better Chinese food in San Ramon. Prices are reasonable and while you aren't getting an incredible value, you aren't left feeling robbed, either. Two reasons for not getting that 5th star. First, there's some scrapes and scuffs to the walls that could be easily painted over, but it looked kind of tacky. 5 minutes with a paintbrush and that problem would be fixed.

We went on a Friday night and ordered the Dan Dan noodles, pork belly, and eggplant. Pretty tasty although the pork belly was a bit too smokey flavored for me. The waiter we has was very nice but a bit slow and a little forgetful (had to ask for water, took a long time for check and order, and she didn't give us extra rice in the to go box) so I subtracted a star for that. The other waiter seemed really good though and helped out.

I had a lunch special with hot and sour soup, pot-stickers, and Mongolian beef. The soup was quite good. The pot-stickers had way too much dough (maybe 1/4 " thick), but the filling was tasty. The beef was barely edible - sort of like beef jerky in a sweet sauce. The was extremely dried out and hard. Maybe it was from a previous week? I recommend Amazing Wok or Uncle Yu's in this area.

Firstly, the interior decor was really nice, had a really nice ambience and vibe to it. My family found this restaurant through a Gluten Free event at Whole Foods which YiPing demo'd at. Being Gluten Free & Chinese myself, I had high expectations for this place and they did not let down. They serve up, in my opinion, the finest authentic Schezwuan cuisine around. All the ingredients are fresh and amazing quality. If you have special diet needs, they are very accommodating towards GF & vegan customers. Now onto the food, we tried: (Dinner) Stuffed crispy eggplant starter ($6,6 pcs): This was a nice savory appetizer, they used corn starch for the coating. A sweet chili/sweet and sour sauce was used to glaze the eggplant. A generous amount of sauce was used in topping the eggplant off but yet it wasn't soggy and remained nice and crispy. Spicy Ma Po Tofu ($10): This was a different take on ma po tofu to me, usually the tofu chunks are a lot smaller & should be some minced meat in it whether beef or chicken. Still, this dish was really tasty, the spiciness was perfect, but if you cannot handle spice, it may catch up to you after a few spoonfuls. Definitely recommend this over some rice. Stir Fried Fish with Chinese Black Fungus ($14): A MUST get. The fish was super fresh, soft, and perfectly cooked. The fungus was perfectly cooked and was probably my favorite dish of the meal. If you haven't tried this, it is stir fried fish with a kind of light gravy sauce with fungus. It's a nice fresh, light dish. Beef Chow Fun ($8.5): Among all the beef chow fun's I have ever had, this dish is comparable to the ones that top restaurants in China make. You can tell that it was skillfully made. Was not oily at all, yet it was moist flavorful and yummy. This plate didn't last too long on the table, as it was eaten up so fast. Seafood Sizzling Clay Pot ($12): This sizzling clay pot was full of flavor and really tasty. Contains Prawns, Calamari, Fish and Scallops with Mushrooms and Fried Tofu, and had a nice flavorful sauce from all the seafood that goes extremely well over rice. Garlic Flavored Green Pea Shoots ($10): This is among one of the harder dishes to make perfect as pea shoots are more complicated to cook well. They nailed it and is a great vege dish to even out your meal. Not over or undercooked. Overall the services was great, though they only have a couple workers, they are fairly new but they were on top of everything. Plating and presentation were also on point as well, kudos.

If you don't know about this place you will never find it. I've lived in San Ramon for 3 years and just recently discovered this hidden gem while browsing Yelp. My husband and I are big Chinese food fans and this place was one of the better places we have been since moving back. Suggestion - Any of the hot pots. NOM! My one and only small gripe is the ambiance.. It is very nicely decorated with a modern feel but the restaurant lacks windows so it's like dining in a basement.

Attractive restaurant. Had the dumpling appetizer - huge dumplings...decent flavor. The claypot dish I had was filling, but lacked flavor. Been to the restaurant twice with friends. Food in general was well cooked, but not exciting.

We just moved to the area and while unpacking we ordered carryout from this place. It was delicious! Their version of Orange Chicken (not sure what it was called) was delicious and their spicy beef dish. One reason I didn't give them 5 stars is that they forgot part of our order. We should have checked it before we left the restaurant, but didn't. BUT we did call and they refunded the missing item with no problems, so in the end they corrected the issue.

We went there last week with a group of 6 people. This was the 3rd time we had gone to Yi Ping. It was not very busy only 4 tables but there was only 1 waitresses/hostess/ telephone order taker. She did her best and was pretty efficient running from table to table and taking phone orders and seating new customers. Kind of felt sorry for her for asking her to fill up our water glasses. The food as usual was good we had the spicy boiled fish, the dan dan noodles, the mapo tofu, szechuan pork, and vegetables. YiPing has two menus 1 American menu and 1 a more spicy Chinese menu ask for both menus.

It's rare to find a restaurant with organic and gluten-free options. When this restaurant first opened I read about it and told my best friend because she was recently diagnosed with Celiac (severe). She ate there not long after and the staff totally cared about her and ensured she had a gluten-free meal AND a wonderful dining experience. She raved about the food and the service. Because of that I referred several other friends before I ever went there myself! Finally tonight my family ate dinner here and ordered five different dishes -- WOW. ALL were fabulous. So was the service. My daughter and I think this is the best Chinese food we've ever had. Not only that, it's fresh, much of it local or organic, and a TON of gluten-free options. This is a new Friday night date option for sure!

We ate here last weekend. The menu we were given at the restaurant listed different items than what we had seen online, and were more specialty fare- tripe, pork belly, lots of spicy items... my husband was thrilled but the rest of us were unsure what to order. I overheard a waiter saying that their full menus had gotten dirty so now they only use these abbreviated paper versions. The restaurant was packed- a good sign, but not enough servers on the floor. Our service was very slow, though our waitress was hustling all over the restaurant trying to get to everybody. Overall, the food and atmosphere was good but the slow service is a drag when you have kids dining with you.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
